As a Senior Technical Lead / SME, you will be responsible for the end-to-end management of virtualization, storage, and backup technologies. You will work on all levels of support tickets (L1 to L3), ensuring timely resolution and driving operational excellence. This role requires hands-on expertise in VMware, Nutanix, VxRail, Dell storage (PowerScale, PowerStore, Unity), and backup platforms (IDPA, PPDM, Rubrik). In addition, you will set technical direction for the team, mentor engineers, coordinate with vendors and stakeholders, and act as the ultimate technical escalation point and subject matter expert.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Handle support tickets from L1 through L3, including incident resolution, request fulfillment, problem management, and change execution.
- Act as the primary SME and escalation point for complex technical issues in virtualization, storage, and backup domains.
- Coordinate with vendor support teams (Dell, VMware, Nutanix, Rubrik, etc.) to troubleshoot and resolve product-related issues.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for major incidents and drive permanent fixes.
- Lead the design, deployment, and optimization of enterprise virtualization (VMware vSphere/vSAN, Nutanix AHV, Dell VxRail).
- Manage storage platforms (PowerScale, PowerStore, Unity), including provisioning, replication, performance tuning, and DR.
- Own backup and recovery operations using IDPA, PPDM, and Rubrik; implement and test DR procedures.
- Ensure proper documentation, SOPs, and knowledge base updates.
- Plan and schedule changes, following ITIL best practices and change management processes.
- Drive service improvement initiatives through trend analysis, automation, and proactive monitoring.
- Prepare and deliver weekly/monthly operational and service reports.
- Mentor and guide team members, fostering knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
- Works under minimal supervision, with broad direction from the Manager.
- Expected to exercise independent judgment in prioritizing, planning, and executing tasks.
- Acts as the technical lead for the team, providing guidance and oversight to junior engineers.
- Escalates issues to management only when policy, budget, or critical business impact decisions are required.
SUPERVISION GIVEN
- Provides technical guidance, mentoring, and training to team members across L1–L3 levels.
- Reviews and validates technical solutions, ensuring adherence to standards and best practices.
- Delegates tasks and monitors progress to ensure timely and quality delivery.
- Acts as the primary point of escalation for complex issues, supporting junior engineers in troubleshooting.
- Encourages knowledge sharing and continuous skill development within the team.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams (network, security, cloud, etc.) and ensures effective communication.
JOB COMPLEXITY
- Works on highly complex, mission-critical infrastructure problems across virtualization, storage, and backup domains, where in-depth technical expertise and cross-platform knowledge are essential.
- Balances hands-on technical execution with team leadership responsibilities, ensuring operational stability while driving innovation and improvements.
- Exercises independent judgment in evaluating multiple technical options, assessing risks, and implementing solutions that align with business objectives.
- Coordinates across vendors, cross-functional teams, and stakeholders to resolve issues and deliver solutions under strict timelines.
- Anticipates potential risks, performs proactive analysis, and recommends strategies to prevent incidents and improve system reliability.
- Expected to lead technical strategy in their domain, influencing standards, best practices, and future architecture decisions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Deep technical expertise in Virtualization (VMware vSphere 6/7, vSAN, Nutanix AHV, Dell VxRail) with proven experience in cluster design, deployment, optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Strong knowledge of Enterprise Storage platforms, including Dell EMC PowerScale (Isilon), PowerStore, and Unity, with hands-on experience in provisioning, replication, migration, and performance management.
- Advanced proficiency in Backup and Recovery solutions such as Dell IDPA, PowerProtect Data Manager (PPDM), and Rubrik, including integration with applications (SQL, Oracle, Exchange, VMware).
- Proven ability to manage end-to-end incident, problem, and change management across L1–L3 support levels.
- Experience conducting Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implementing permanent solutions to prevent recurrence.
- Strong understanding of operating systems (Windows, Linux/RedHat) and related infrastructure technologies (networking, clustering, load balancing, DR).
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor, delegate, and drive performance across multi-level teams.
- Strong vendor and stakeholder management skills, with experience coordinating directly with Dell, VMware, Nutanix, and Rubrik support teams.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making capabilities, able to weigh technical and business factors to deliver optimal solutions.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing documentation, SOPs, and operational reports.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field with 10 + years of enterprise infrastructure experience, including 4+ years in a senior/lead or SME role.
- Equivalent Diploma with 10+ years of related experience may also be considered.

Ability to define problems, collect data, analyze information, and draw valid conclusions. Skilled in interpreting a wide variety of technical instructions in both abstract and concrete terms.
