THE ROLEOur client is seeking a Compliance Associate to build and oversee operational and compliance frameworks for their expanding high-frequency trading operations in Mumbai. This role will be instrumental in managing regulatory engagements and handling operational matters, and will collaborate with international teams.

From the Mumbai office, you will be a key player in managing local operations and compliance, and working with colleagues in our international offices. THE RESPONSIBILITIESAs a key hire for our Mumbai office, you will be instrumental in establishing and managing our Indian trading business. Your responsibilities will include:Establish Compliance Framework: Develop and oversee systems, controls, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations, governance, and reporting requirements.

Provide Regulatory Guidance: Advise our client's global teams on Indian operational and compliance matters. Liaise with Regulators: Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators, brokers, and exchanges in India. Legal Collaboration: Work closely with internal and external counsel to monitor compliance with relevant standards and regulations.

Manage Trading Operations: Develop and enhance operational and middle-office support for trading desks, ensuring efficient funding, reconciliation, and accounting of trading activity. Conduct Trade Surveillance: Establish and maintain surveillance processes to ensure trading compliance and escalate anomalies. Risk Assessment: Partner with stakeholders to assess business strategies and identify operational and compliance risks.

Develop Training and Reporting: Create presentations, training materials, and communications related to operational, compliance, and statutory reporting. Guide IT Development: Provide guidance to the IT department on the development and testing of IT systems, processes, and controls. Enhance Systems: Develop and enhance operations and compliance systems, trading controls, and reporting capabilities.

Maintain Compliance Programs: Develop and maintain regulatory programs, compliance manuals, policies and procedures. Monitor Trading Activity: Establish systems to monitor and review trading activity in real-time and post-trade. Collaborate Globally: Interact with operational and compliance colleagues in Asia, the EU, and the US on cross-border projects.

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTSEducational QualificationLLB (Bachelor of Laws) from an accredited institution. Additional professional certifications or industry qualifications in compliance, finance, or a related field are preferred. Experience5 years of experience in regulatory compliance and operations, with equity & derivative market experience preferred.

Prior experience working with vendor-based surveillance systems (e.g., SMARTS, Actimize, Eventus' Validus, Guardian) is highly desirable. Hands-on experience with trade surveillance systems and familiarity with setting up or enhancing surveillance workflows. Knowledge and SkillsKnowledge of major regulatory and operational developments in Asia, with a focus on:India Qualified Foreign Institutional Investor (FPI) program

Indian corporation law & securities/derivative market laws

Indian commodity/securities/derivatives market regulations

Indian commodity/securities/derivatives operating rules & procedures

Indian clearing house margin, clearing & settlement rules & procedures

Indian AML Legislation & RegulationsIndian privacy law and data security law

Ability to provide presentations & training to colleagues as required. Ability to draft & review operational, compliance, risk & IT policy & procedures. Previous experience working for a major exchange would be highly regarded.

Personal SkillsExcel at building collaborative partnerships with stakeholders. Strong ability to interpret regulations and legislation. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills in English.
