What you will be doing:
  • Coordination, analysis, design, implementation, and administration of database solutions, including database server configuration and maintenance.
  • Analyzing customers infrastructure and processes and recommending to customers, best practices for improvements to current operational processes and procedures to ensure that databases remain operational for maximum uptime and recoverability.
  • Administration of backup procedures and disaster recovery plans, provides proactive monitoring to head off potential issues before they become incidents, responds to monitoring alerts, and carries out troubleshooting of operational problems.
  • Overseeing of backup, clustering, mirroring, replication, failover, and restoration and recovery of corrupted databases, develops and reviews action plans (such as maintenance, deployment, upgrades, etc.), and completes all relevant client documentation.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of all relevant customer information including warnings, handoffs, briefing notes, etc.
  • Assists the Lead Database Consultant with respect to Incident Management, Problem Management and Problem Resolution, implements Changes and Service Requests, and designs/implements technical procedures for complex changes.
  • Prepare customer status and incident reports, responding to customer requests and enquiries, and maintains alignment with a customers operating procedures (e.g., change control, follows hourly requirements of customer allotments and alerts Team Lead to any pacing concerns).
  • Maintain any customer specific assets such as soft or hard access tokens, access cards and any other hard or soft asset provided.
  • Takes a lead role in the teams maintenance and alignment of Pythian process requirements including, handovers, documentation and process acknowledgements, and incident reviews.
  • Enhancement of Pythian tools and processes, suggesting and possibly designing/implementing new monitoring checks, enhancements to DBA toolkits, and other process improvements such as Initial Reviews, Performance Reviews, Audits, etc.
  • Participate in sales support activities such as presales, proposal preparation and tech calls etc.
  • Take on a lead role in contributing to Pythians external profile in the preparation of marketing collateral including web site material and presentations at conferences or trade shows, participate in local user groups and be active on the technology blogging front.
What you bring:
  • 5 to 8 years of database administration experience managing Oracle databases (including Oracle RAC), Basics of Oracle Exadata with good foundational understanding of Oracle database technologies.
  • Curiosity mindset and tenacity to fully diagnose why something went wrong.
  • Troubleshooting and performance improvement skills, AWR, ADDM report, including index creation, query optimization, schema changes, etc.
  • Understanding of database security management.
  • Experience managing logical and physical standby database.
  • Knowledge of Oracle DataGuard and GoldenGate replication.
  • Required Knowledge of Oracle Enterprise Manager with Basic Linux knowledge.
