Role Description

Mechanical / Maintenance Engineer – KRA for Printing Press

1. Machine Uptime & Breakdown Management

  • Ensure
    maximum uptime
    of key printing machines (e.g., offset, flexo, gravure, digital presses).
  • Respond immediately to breakdowns; minimize
    downtime
    and production loss.
  • Conduct
    root cause analysis (RCA)
    of mechanical failures and implement corrective/preventive actions.

2. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance (PM/PPM)

  • Develop and strictly follow
    preventive maintenance schedules
    for all machinery (presses, dryers, conveyors, slitters, etc.).
  • Use predictive techniques (vibration analysis, thermography) where possible to
    anticipate failures
    .
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, checklists, and schedules.

3. Print Quality Support

  • Maintain mechanical systems (rollers, tensioners, register controls) in top condition to avoid print defects.
  • Coordinate with production to ensure that
    mechanical setup issues
    don't affect
    print registration, alignment
    , or quality.

4. Spare Parts & Inventory Management

  • Ensure availability of critical mechanical spares (bearings, belts, gears, pneumatic components, etc.).
  • Maintain an
    optimized inventory
    to reduce costs without compromising response time.
  • Coordinate with vendors for timely procurement and service support.

5. Installation & Commissioning

  • Assist in
    installation, testing, and commissioning
    of new machines or mechanical systems.
  • Support layout planning, machine alignment, and interfacing with electrical/automation teams.

6. Energy Efficiency & Cost Optimization

  • Monitor air compressors, dryers, and motors for
    efficient energy usage
    .
  • Suggest and implement mechanical improvements that
    reduce waste, power consumption
    , or downtime.

7. Safety, Compliance & Audits

  • Ensure all mechanical systems comply with
    health, safety, and environmental (HSE)
    standards.
  • Conduct safety audits for mechanical systems (e.g., guards, emergency stops, pressure vessels).
  • Maintain compliance with statutory regulations (e.g., boiler and pressure system rules, if applicable).

8. Team Supervision & Training

  • Guide and supervise fitters, technicians, and helpers on proper mechanical maintenance practices.
  • Conduct
    on-job training
    on mechanical troubleshooting, safe practices, and SOP adherence.

9. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain daily/weekly breakdown reports, maintenance logs, and downtime analysis.
  • Track and report KPIs like
    MTTR, MTBF, breakdown frequency
    , and maintenance costs.
  • Participate in daily production meetings with accurate mechanical data inputs.
