Job Description: Accountant – University Position

The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting budgeting and reporting processes, and ensuring compliance with university policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements. This role plays a key part in the financial health and operational efficiency of the institution by performing accounting functions and assisting departments across campus.

Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Accounting & Reporting

  • Prepare, review, and maintain general ledger entries and account reconciliations.
  • Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, university policies, and state/federal regulations.
  • Support year-end closing processes and audit preparation.

Budgeting & Analysis

  • Assist departments with budget preparation, monitoring, and forecasting.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support decision-making.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Process invoices, payments, journal entries, deposits, and reimbursements.
  • Monitor outstanding receivables, including student accounts and external partners.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payment processing and account reconciliation.

Compliance & Internal Controls

  • Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard university assets.
  • Assist in developing and documenting financial policies and procedures.
  • Support audit processes and respond to auditor inquiries.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree

Skills

  • Excellent Excel skills and ability to analyze large datasets.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.

Salary- 15k to 20k
