Staff Software Engineer, AI Innovation and Research

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in software development.
• 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
• 5 years of experience building and deploying recommendation systems models (retrieval, prediction, ranking, embedding) in production and experience building architecture in different modeling domains.
• 5 years of experience with ML design and ML infrastructure (e.g., model deployment, model evaluation, data processing, debugging, fine tuning).

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
• 3 years of experience working in an organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.

With your technical expertise you will manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables. You will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions. The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of AI/ML engineers, guiding them in the development, training, evaluation, and deployment of robust, scalable AI/ML models, ensuring successful integration into production systems.
• Collaborate with platforms and devices product teams and research teams to define and deliver innovative, impactful AI-based features, anticipating future needs.
• Foster strong relationships and facilitate seamless collaboration with the Mountain View-based team, leveraging their proximity and partnerships with platforms and devices product teams to maximize team efficiency and overall impact.
• Identify common needs across multiple engagements, driving the development of shared infrastructure and foundational models that serve as a common toolset and blueprints for accelerated future engagements.
• Advocate knowledge transfer and cultivate AI expertise within the Platforms and Devices product teams, enabling them to separately lead and execute future AI-driven initiatives.
