Core Responsibilities

  • Vehicle Operation: Safely operate a tractor-trailer to transport goods, over intercity .
  • Inspections: Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the truck and trailer, documenting any defects or mechanical issues and reporting them to maintenance or dispatch.
  • Cargo Handling:Load, unload, and secure cargo, ensuring it is balanced and secure for the entire trip.
  • Route Planning:Use maps and GPS systems to plan the most efficient and safest routes to meet delivery schedules.
  • Safety Compliance:Adhere to all federal, state, and local traffic laws and safety regulations, including mandatory rest periods and weight restrictions.
  • Documentation:Maintain accurate logs of hours driven, activities, deliveries, fuel, and expenses, and complete all necessary paperwork accurately.
  • Communication:Coordinate with dispatchers regarding delivery statuses, potential delays, and any road incidents.
  • Maintenance:Perform basic vehicle maintenance, such as refueling and cleaning, and report serious mechanical problems.

Key Skills and Requirements

  • A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Clean driving record.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable trucking laws and regulations.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work long hours and adapt to unexpected situations like traffic or weather.
  • Good communication skills for interacting with dispatchers and customers.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic equipment and software, such as GPS.
