Finance Controller

Role Overview

• The Finance Controller will be responsible for end-to-end financial controllership, including accounting, MIS, compliance, taxation, and operational finance. This role partners closely with business teams to ensure financial discipline, accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and healthy cash flow, while supporting strategic and regulatory decision-making in a fast-paced, regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Planning, Budgeting & Control

• Support annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and variance analysis with a focus on unit economics, transaction costs, and ROI.
• Track key cost drivers including processing fees, platform costs, commissions, and credit-related expenses (where applicable).
• Support pricing, margin, and profitability analysis across transaction-based, subscription, and API-led products.

2. P&L Ownership & Business Partnering

• Own company-wide and product-level P&Ls with granular visibility into transaction-level economics.
• Act as a finance partner to product, growth, risk, and compliance teams to evaluate CAC, LTV, payback periods, and profitability.
• Provide financial inputs for new product launches, partnerships, and market expansions.

3. MIS, Financial Reporting & Close

• Own monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close with strict timelines and high accuracy.
• Build management dashboards and MIS covering metrics such as transaction volumes, revenue yield, cost per transaction, working capital, and collections.
• Prepare board-level and investor reporting packs with clear financial commentary, risks, and outlook.

4. Accounting, Controls & Automation

• Ensure compliance with Ind AS, revenue recognition standards, and transaction-led accounting practices.
• Design, implement, and strengthen internal controls around transaction processing, reconciliations, and settlements.
• Drive automation across accounting, reconciliations, and reporting using ERP systems and fintech tools.

5. Compliance, Audit & Governance

• Ensure compliance with the Companies Act, GST, Income Tax, and applicable RBI / regulatory guidelines.
• Lead statutory, tax, internal, and regulatory audits; ensure audit readiness at all times.
• Partner with compliance and risk teams to maintain regulatory documentation and reporting.

6. Taxation & Regulatory Reporting

• Manage direct and indirect taxation including GST, TDS, income tax provisions, assessments, and filings.
• Ensure accurate classification of income streams for tax and regulatory purposes.
• Oversee regulatory filings, certificates, and periodic reporting to authorities and partners.

7. Revenue Operations, Settlements & Collections

• Oversee billing, invoicing, revenue recognition, and collections across transaction-led and subscription models.
• Manage settlements with banks, payment partners, merchants, and vendors, including nodal / escrow account reconciliations.
• Monitor receivables, disputes, chargebacks, and improve cash conversion cycles.

8. Treasury, Cash Flow & Strategic Support

• Monitor daily cash positions, liquidity, and fund flows across operating and escrow accounts.
• Support fundraising, due diligence, lender audits, and investor information requests.
• Assist with financial evaluation of partnerships, acquisitions, and regulatory-driven business changes.

Candidate Profile (Must-Have)

• Qualified Chartered Accountant (mandatory); MBA (Finance) or CFA is an added advantage.
• 8-12 years of experience in fintech, payments, lending, NBFCs, digital banking, or regulated financial services.
• Strong understanding of transaction-led accounting, escrow / nodal mechanisms, settlements, and RBI-aligned compliance.
• Hands-on experience with ERP systems, reconciliation engines, BI tools, and financial automation.
• Prior exposure to audits, fundraising, or scale-stage regulated businesses is highly preferred.
• Ability to operate in fast-paced environments with high ownership and attention to detail.
