System Administrator

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Senior System Administrator with expertise in Linux and Windows environments. The role involves managing, maintaining, and optimizing our mixed server environments.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of systems administration, virtualization, security

best practices, automation, and scripting, along with the ability to lead projects and mentor junior staff.

Responsibilities:

• System Administration:

• Manage and administer both Linux (CentOS, Ubuntu, RedHat, Rocky) and Windows Server (2012, 2016, 2019, 2022) environments.
• Handle server setup, configuration, and deployment for production and development environments.
• Perform regular system updates, patching, and upgrades to ensure system reliability and security.

• End-User Support:

• Provide Tier 2/3 technical support for desktop systems running Windows and Linux, including hardware and software troubleshooting.
• Respond to user-reported issues and service requests via the helpdesk system, email, or phone, ensuring timely resolution.
• Assist with software installations, configurations, and patch management on both Linux and Windows desktops.
• Support remote users through VPN and remote desktop tools (e.g., RDP, VNC, Pcoip, NoMachine).

• Virtualization:

• Manage and maintain VMware and Hyper-V environments.
• Deploy and manage virtual machines (VMs) and optimize virtual environments for performance.

• User Onboarding & Training:

• Support the onboarding process for new employees, including the setup of accounts, desktop provisioning, and training on basic system usage.

• Provide user education on security best practices, backup policies, and troubleshooting steps for common issues.

• Document user guides and maintain up-to-date knowledge base articles for common desktop support tasks.

• User & Access Management:

• Administer user accounts, permissions, and policies using Active Directory (AD) and LDAP on Linux.
• Set up and manage Group Policy on Windows environments.
• Implement multi-factor authentication (MFA) solutions.

• Security & Compliance:

• Monitor system security, perform audits, and ensure compliance with security policies (e.g., patch management, firewall configuration, and antivirus).
• Collaborate with the security team to implement policies for intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS).
• Maintain backups and disaster recovery plans for business continuity.

• Storage & Networking:

• Manage storage solutions, including NAS/SAN setups, and ensure effective data backup solutions.
• Configure and manage network settings, including DNS, DHCP, and IP addressing on both platforms.
• Work with network and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless connectivity.

• Automation & Scripting:

• Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell, and Bash, for daily tasks such as backup management, performance monitoring, and user account creation.
• Implement infrastructure automation using Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.

• Monitoring & Troubleshooting:

• Set up and manage system monitoring tools like Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, or Grafana for proactive monitoring.
• Troubleshoot and resolve system-related incidents, providing root cause analysis and implementing preventive measures.
• Provide on-call support when necessary for critical system issues.

• Collaboration & Escalation:

• Collaborate with network, Infosec and DevOps teams to resolve complex technical issues.
• Act as the primary escalation point for junior support team members and assist with advanced troubleshooting across different shifts
• Document processes, configurations, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Communicate clearly with non-technical staff to diagnose and resolve issues efficiently.
