We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Process Mechanical Design Engineer with 1522 years of proven expertise in the design and execution of mechanical systems for pharmaceutical and life sciences facilities. The ideal candidate will lead the design and engineering of complex mechanical systemsincluding clean utilities, process piping, and equipment integration—ensuring compliance with cGMP, ASME, ISPE, and other industry standards.

This role requires a deep understanding of process mechanical design, project lifecycle execution, cross-functional coordination, and client-facing communication. The candidate will be instrumental in driving innovation, efficiency, and quality across projects, acting as both a technical authority and a project design lead.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead mechanical design for pharmaceutical and life science facilities, covering:

  • Clean utilities (WFI, PW, Clean Steam, Process Air, Nitrogen, etc.)

  • Process piping systems
  • HVAC interfaces with process equipment

  • Equipment layout, selection, and integration

  • Review and approve mechanical deliverables including:

  • P&IDs, equipment datasheets, piping layouts, isometrics, and BOQs

  • 3D models (BIM/Revit/Plant3D/Navisworks, etc.)

  • Calculation sheets and design basis reports

  • Ensure designs meet regulatory and quality standards including cGMP, ISPE, FDA, EMA, and other regional/national codes (ASME BPE, IS 1239/3589, etc.)

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams: Process, Civil, Electrical, Instrumentation, Validation & CQV
  • Participate in HAZOPs, design reviews (3D model reviews), FAT/SAT, and risk assessments
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers
  • Interface with clients, vendors, and contractors to resolve technical queries and ensure project alignment
  • Support in project estimation, scheduling, and resource planning
  • Ensure value engineering without compromising on quality or compliance
  • Actively contribute to continuous improvement, standardization, and knowledge sharing

Key Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong expertise in process mechanical systems in regulated environments
  • Proficiency in tools like AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Revit, Navisworks, or E3D
  • Sound knowledge of piping material specifications, stress analysis, support design, and equipment integration
  • Excellent understanding of engineering documentation and workflows
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to lead design teams, review deliverables, and interface with stakeholders
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies (preferred but not mandatory)
