Duties specific to the Registered Nurse include:
Administering drugs, medications, treatments, inoculations, and tests as allowed by law.
Implementing verbal physician orders and authenticating in writing, within a reasonable time, and included in the patient record
Communicating with psychiatrist, physicians, nurses, and pharmacists and therapists
Completing other tasks within the scope of registered nurses and the program services and procedures.
Oversees all aspects of the detox patient admission process, including:
Pre-screening of new patients for appropriateness for admission, including TB screening.
Obtaining physical assessment data and health history
Undertakes Alcohol and Drug testing of all clients on admission
Inventorying and caring for patients medication.
Executes prescribed treatments and medical interventions, including transcribing and administering routine and prescribed medications in accordance with procedures established by the Medical Director and Supervising Nurse.
- Records patient observations and activities in patient records accurately and timely in accordance with nursing standards and organizational policy and procedure.
- Liaise with partner hospitals, and book lab tests when require, and carry out collection of blood, urine, spital or stool samples when required.
- Actively and compassionately interacts with patients to encourage engagement in treatment after completion of detoxification.
- Maintains a safe and sanitary environment applying principles of medical asepsis and applying infection control techniques and universal precautions. Ensures daily checks of temperatures for clinic rooms, fridges and reports any faults to facilities.
- Provides patient education on health care, as assigned or appropriate. Including smoking cessation.
- Will ensure that all emergency and first aid kits are checked weekly, replenished if required and faults reported to facilities.
- Implements safety and emergency procedures during fire drills and other disaster procedures, with assistance to patients and children in the detox and residential programs.
- Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings.
- Follows all policies and procedures with regard to patient information protection, including alcohol- drug patient confidentiality
- Attends training on chemical dependency as required by employer.
- Request and order any equipment, disposables that are required for the safe operating of the clinic.
- Maintains and demonstrates a current working knowledge of applicable clinical procedures and nursing care based on company policy and guidelines.
