Structural Engineer - Steel Design Specialist

The Role

  • Start with first-principles: derive load paths, equilibrium, buckling & fatigue checks by hand before you open the software.
  • Analyse & validate steel structures in ANSYS, Dlubal RFEM and your own spreadsheet
  • Team up with steel detailers & CAD techs to turn clean calcs into buildable drawings.
  • Projects across sectors: offshore & marine preferred-but bridges, plants, cranes, and heavy frames need the same fundamentals.
  • Optimise designs by interrogating critical results, safety factors and fabrication constraints.
  • Run QA reviews of models, hand calcs, reports and fabrication packages; coach juniors on "why", not just "how".

What We're Looking For

  • B. Eng / M. Eng in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3-6 yrs designing steelwork with demonstrable hand-calc proficiency (shear/moment, deflection, connection design, stability).
  • Comfortable with Eurocode 3 plus at least one of: DNV-ST-N001, API 2A, AWS D1.1, IS 800.
  • Hands-on knowledge of steel grades, weld symbols, fabrication & erection methods.
  • Ability to read/mark-up 3D CAD and fabrication drawings; Tekla or Advance Steel a plus.
  • Offshore / marine exposure nice-to-have, but a solid command of structural theory is essential.
  • Self-starter who balances rigour with deadlines and happily jumps in to help the wider team.
