Location: Paradip, Odisha

Experience Required: 5+ years in coal handling or plant operations

About the Role

We are seeking a Shift Engineer – Operations who will be responsible for supervising coal unloading, plant operations, coal quality management, and ensuring smooth coordination between departments. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, decision-making skills, and a focus on safety, efficiency, and cost optimization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise Coal Handling: Manage unloading from wagons/ships, conveyor operations, and stockyard management.
  • Monitor Plant Operations: Continuously track critical process parameters from the control room to ensure equipment efficiency.
  • Coal Quality & Blending: Oversee coal sampling and blending processes to achieve desired fuel mix.
  • Material Management: Reduce coal losses, prevent spillage, and enforce FIFO (First In, First Out) for consumption.
  • Resource Allocation: Optimize manpower, materials, and consumables during shifts.
  • EHS Compliance: Implement Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) systems and conduct internal inspections for non-conformity tracking.

  • Reporting & Communication:

  • Maintain accurate shift logs and reports.

  • Conduct smooth shift handovers.
  • Collaborate with departments (Quality, Maintenance, Logistics).
  • Submit performance reports to management (daily, weekly, monthly).

Key Objectives

  • Reduce operational costs and overtime.
  • Improve inventory and manpower efficiency.
  • Increase overall revenue and job output with existing resources.

Requirements

  • Degree/Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Proven experience in coal handling, plant operations, or shift supervision.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills.
  • Ability to solve problems and make decisions under pressure.
  • Proactive and detail-oriented approach to operations.
