Organization Background:

Vicharta Samuday Samarthan Manch (VSSM) is a non-profit organization working for the holistic development of nomadic, denotified, and marginalized communities. One of our key interventions is community housing, where, under a Public-Private Partnership model, we develop housing colonies and individual homes.

The Senior Engineer will play a pivotal role in planning, executing, and supervising housing construction projects. This includes ensuring quality, timely delivery, cost efficiency, compliance with structural and safety standards, and alignment with community needs. The role involves site visits, coordination with contractors and authorities, and preparation of technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities

·      Lead the construction of community housing projects across multiple sites.

·      Ensure projects are executed as per approved structural designs, budget, and timelines.

·      Conduct regular site inspections and resolve technical or site-related issues promptly.

·      Maintain compliance with safety standards, building codes, and engineering best practices.

·      Oversee quality checks on materials, construction processes, and workmanship.

·      Liaise effectively with contractors, supervisors, architects, vendors, and local authorities.

·      Collaborate closely with field teams and community members to understand and address housing needs.

·      Maintain detailed records of project timelines, budgets, milestones, and reports.

·      Review and verify contractor bills against
BOQs (Bill of Quantities)
and actual work completed and put it forward for approval of the Director.

·      Manage the
tendering process
, including preparation of tender documents, evaluating bids, and recommending contractors/vendors.

·      Submit periodic updates and progress reports to the organization's leadership team.

·      Travel to ongoing project sites at least
once a month
to monitor progress and address challenges.

Required Skills & Experience

·      Minimum 5 years of experience in housing or infrastructure projects.

·      Strong project management and technical supervision skills.

·      Experience in
billing, cost verification, tendering, and vendor management.

·      Ability to work in rural or field conditions and manage multiple sites simultaneously.

·      Experience in budgeting, cost estimation, and site coordination.

·      Excellent written and verbal communication skills
(Gujarati & English preferred).

·      Understanding of
community-centric development projects
is an advantage.

·      Ability to communicate and guide field staff.
