Senior Consultant - System Management

Role Overview

The DB2 Database L2 Administrator is responsible for advanced support and maintenance of DB2 environments across distributed andor mainframe platforms This role involves handling escalated incidents performing root cause analysis implementing changes and ensuring database performance security and availability in a 24x7 environment

Key Responsibilities

Investigate and resolve escalated DB2 database issues from L1

Perform root cause analysis for recurring incidents and document solutions

Install configure and maintain DB2 LUW Linux UNIX Windows or zOS environments

Apply DB2 fix packs APARs and patches perform pre and postpatch validation using tools like db2prereqcheck

Manage backup and recovery strategies including rollback procedures

Monitor and tune database performance buffer pools tablespaces indexes

Conduct capacity planning and implement optimization strategies

Configure and manage HADR High Availability Disaster Recovery setups

Work with TSA Tivoli System Automation for failover and clustering

Perform impact analysis for DB changes and coordinate deployments

Update CMDB and maintain documentation for all changes

Develop scripts Shell Python Perl PowerShell for routine tasks and automation

Implement and monitor database security policies

Support audits and compliance initiatives ISO SOC PCIDSS

Coordinate with L3 teams application owners and vendors for complex issues

Update knowledge base and SOPs for L1 teams

Required Skills

5 years of experience in DB2 UDB administration

Strong knowledge of DB2 instance types root vs nonroot TSA HADR and DSM Data Server Manager

Proficiency in AIXLinux environments

Shell scripting Python or Perl for automation

Familiarity with monitoring tools eg Data Server Manager Dynatrace

Understanding of ITIL processes Incident Change and Problem Management

Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills

Ability to work in 24x7 support with oncall rotation

Preferred Qualifications

DB2 Certification IBM Certified Database Administrator

Exposure to cloud environments AWS Azure for DB2 hosting

Experience with workload automation tools
