Job Title: Teacher – Special Educator (SHI)

Location: Mumbai, Maharashtra (with travel to project locations)

Working Hours: 8 hrs/day, flexible between 9:30 am – 6:30 pm (5 days a week)

Role Overview We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Special Educator to support students with Speech and Hearing Impairment (SHI). The ideal candidate will be proficient in Indian Sign Language (ISL) and will play a critical role in teaching, guiding, and preparing students for job placements. The educator will also work closely with schools, NGO partners, and local employers to ensure holistic student development and successful career readiness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Travel to different schools and NGO partner locations to deliver training and support.
  • Teach and communicate with students using sign language, adapting methods to individual learning needs.
  • Prepare students for job placements by developing employability and life skills.
  • Counsel students, build rapport, and foster trust, motivation, and growth.
  • Conduct local job mapping to identify potential employment opportunities suitable for SHI students.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress and activities.
  • Create and present detailed reports on student development and program outcomes to the reporting manager.
  • Conduct sensitization sessions at employer sites to raise awareness about working with persons with speech and hearing impairments, ensuring inclusive and supportive work environments.
  • Provide on-the-job training to SHI candidates at the workplace, helping them adapt to their roles, understand job expectations, and bridge communication gaps.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

1. Training & Delivery

  • Number of training sessions conducted per month – 20
  • Average student attendance rate in training: 16 students

2. Student Development

  • Percentage of students showing improvement in employability skills (pre- vs. post-assessment) – baseline 40–60% to endline 80%
  • Number of students placed in jobs after training – 50% of batch strength
  • Retention rate of students in the program – minimum 3 months from joining

3. Employer Engagement & Placement

  • Number of new employers mapped per quarter – at least 1 (through direct pitching)
  • Number of employer sensitization sessions conducted per quarter – aligned with placement numbers
  • Post-placement support – follow the standard 1-year plan

4. On-the-Job Training & Support Number of workplace visits for SHI candidate support per month – as per post-placement plan1st Month – 10 visits2nd Month – 4 calls (per week) & 2 visits3rd Month onwards – 4 calls (1 per week)

5. Reporting & Documentation

  • Timeliness of reports submitted to reporting manager – within 2 days
  • Accuracy of student progress records – 100% accuracy

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field (preferred).
  • Certification or training in teaching students with hearing impairments.
  • Proficiency in Indian Sign Language (ISL) is mandatory.
  • Strong interpersonal and counselling skills.
  • Ability to travel frequently and manage multiple locations.
  • Organized, empathetic, and goal-oriented.

Experience Minimum 3 years of experience working with students with hearing impairments or in a similar role.

  • Proficiency in ISL: Essential for effective communication and instruction.
  • Empathy & Patience: Ability to understand the unique needs of SHI students and support them with care and sensitivity.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Verbal and non-verbal skills to collaborate with teams, students, and external stakeholders.
  • Counselling Abilities: Capability to support students emotionally and guide them through career and personal development.
  • Organizational Skills: Efficient in maintaining student records, planning lessons, and preparing reports.
  • Adaptability & Flexibility: Comfortable with traveling to various locations and adjusting to diverse learning environments.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to address challenges related to placements or student learning effectively.
  • Team Player: Skilled at collaborating with NGOs, schools, employers, and other educators.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹40, ₹45,000.00 per month
