Job Description Backend Testing Engineer (IoT System Testing, Validation & Calibration)

We are looking for a dedicated and sharp Backend Testing Engineer to work closely with our IoT deployment and R&D teams. You will be responsible for validating sensor data, testing backend APIs, calibrating system thresholds, and ensuring end-to-end reliability of ENERGY7's Remote Diagnostic and Predictive Maintenance System (RDPMS) deployed across railway infrastructure.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Validation of Sensor Data:

  • Verify correctness of field sensor data (voltages, currents, status bits, etc.) received via MQTT/Modbus.

  • Cross-check live values with physical instrument readings during site deployment or simulation.

  • Calibration of Thresholds & Logic:

  • Calibrate alert levels and operating thresholds based on ground readings, historical data, and R&D inputs.

  • Tune parameters used in real-time monitoring and predictive algorithms to eliminate false alerts.

  • Backend/API Testing:

  • Test REST APIs for data push/pull operations, asset control, and system sync functions.

  • Validate response integrity, error handling, and payload formats (JSON/XML).

  • Database & Data Integrity Testing:

  • Ensure correct mapping of device data in TimescaleDB/PostgreSQL with appropriate timestamps.

  • Perform SQL queries to verify data consistency across devices, dashboards, and historical trends.

  • IoT Deployment Support:

  • Support field teams during installation by helping validate data connectivity, gateway setup, and RTU configurations.

  • Conduct pre-go-live test cycles, generate validation reports, and assist in UAT signoff.

  • Protocol and Edge Testing:

  • Test Modbus RTU/TCP transactions and MQTT publish/subscribe cycles under simulated fault conditions.

  • Monitor data packet consistency and latency during high-load conditions.

  • Test Planning & Documentation:

  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive test cases, checklists, and validation logs.

  • Raise and track bugs using JIRA and collaborate with developers for resolution.
