Job Summary:

The COO will oversee all operational aspects of the wind turbine manufacturing facilities, ensuring efficient organization structure, plant layout, project execution, supply chain management, cost control, and robust management information systems. This role is pivotal in supply chain localization, driving operational excellence, cost optimization, and supporting the company's strategic growth in the wind energy sector.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Plant Layout & Equipment Decision

  • Finalize factory layouts in collaboration with global teams, ensuring alignment with best practices and market requirements.
  • Select and implement world-class equipment to achieve optimal cycle times and quality.
  • Identify process bottlenecks and recommend tools, handling equipment, and quality assurance systems.
  • Coordinate with design and engineering teams to specify and source testing equipment and reliable assembly partners.

2. Project Monitoring & Execution

  • Develop and implement project monitoring tools and formats for all manufacturing plants.
  • Establish multi-level project schedules and tracking mechanisms.
  • Drive teams to meet project milestones and targeted completion dates.

3. Supply Chain Strategy

  • Segment Bill of Materials (BOM) into vendor-designed, company-designed, and catalog components.
  • Develop and execute localization strategies for sourcing.
  • Prepare and maintain cost monitoring tools.
  • Negotiate and establish long-term contracts with strategic suppliers.
  • Lead make-or-buy analyses and component development schedules.

4. Cost Control Mechanisms

  • Implement templates and processes to track conversion costs across all assembly units.
  • Identify and monitor major cost drivers and external factors (e.g., currency fluctuations).
  • Regularly review and optimize cost control measures.

5. Management Information Systems (MIS)

  • Establish and maintain MIS templates for weekly, monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, and annual reporting.
  • Track and analyze budget vs. actual performance across departments.

6. Organization Structure & Talent Management

  • Design and implement organization structures for all manufacturing units (Gearbox, Generator, Pitch/Yaw Drive, Blade, Nacelle assembly).
  • Define roles, responsibilities, and authority matrices, including coordination with international teams (e.g., China).
  • Develop strategies for on-roll, off-roll, and contract staffing to optimize knowledge retention and labor cost flexibility.
  • Establish and centralize a Global Competency Center (GCC) for common activities (hiring, payroll, finance, procurement).
  • Oversee the hiring process for key roles, including JD preparation, review, and selection of critical personnel.
  • Support structure formation and talent acquisition across all manufacturing centers.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, Operations Management, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in manufacturing operations, preferably in renewable energy or heavy industry.
  • Proven leadership in multi-plant operations and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong knowledge of supply chain, cost control, and project management.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience working with international teams and matrix organizations is a plus.

Location & Travel:

  • Primary location: Bangalore/Pune
  • Occasional travel to manufacturing sites and international offices as required.
