Job Title:

BI/Data Engineer Semantic Layer & Historical Data Specialist.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented BI/Data Engineer with expertise in semantic layer design and historical data loading to join our data engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for building and maintaining semantic data models, ensuring smooth integration of historical data, and supporting analytics and reporting through self-service capabilities. The role involves full-cycle project execution, from requirement analysis to production deployment and testing.

Key Responsibilities:

Semantic Layer Development

  • Conduct detailed requirement analysis and participate in requirement review sessions with stakeholders.
  • Design, develop, and maintain the semantic layer to enable easy access to business-friendly data for reporting and analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker).
  • Develop and optimize data models to support self-service BI and standardized reporting.
  • Collaborate with business analysts and users to support self-service reporting needs.

Data Integration & Historical Loading

  • Design and implement processes for history data loading, including sourcing, transformation, and integration of historical datasets.
  • Analyze data sources and schema, ensuring alignment with semantic models and business requirements.

Testing & Deployment

  • Develop test reports and test cases for SIT (System Integration Testing) and UAT (User Acceptance Testing) phases.
  • Support comprehensive testing cycles, resolving issues and validating business logic with QA and business teams.
  • Coordinate and execute production deployment, ensuring minimal disruption to existing processes.

Job Scheduling & Monitoring

  • Design and implement job scheduling workflows to automate ETL/ELT processes and semantic layer refreshes.
  • Monitor scheduled jobs for failures or delays and troubleshoot issues in a timely manner.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in BI development, data modeling, or semantic layer creation.
  • Strong understanding of ETL processes, data warehousing, and data modeling concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with tools like Informatica, DBT, Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.
  • Proficiency in SQL and scripting for data transformation and validation.
  • Experience in history data loading strategies such as SCD (Slowly Changing Dimensions) and snapshotting.
  • Familiarity with data governance, metadata management, and data quality best practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Redshift, Azure Synapse, or Google BigQuery.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and DevOps practices in data engineering.
  • Experience with job orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow, Control-M, or Azure Data Factory.
