Role Overview:

The License Compliance Manager is responsible for managing the organizations software assets, ensuring adherence to licensing agreements, minimizing non-compliance risks, and driving cost efficiency. The role involves collaboration across IT, procurement, legal, and vendor management functions.

Key Responsibilities:

Software Asset & License Management

  • Maintain a complete and up-to-date inventory of software licenses, entitlements, and deployments
  • Track usage to ensure compliance with vendor terms and licensing agreements
  • Implement software asset management (SAM) tools and processes for license tracking and optimization

Compliance & Audits

  • Ensure adherence to software licensing terms and contractual obligations
  • Lead and support internal and external software audits (e.g., Microsoft, Oracle, Adobe)
  • Proactively identify and mitigate potential compliance risks before audits occur

Vendor & Contract Management

  • Liaise with software vendors and procurement teams regarding renewals, true-ups, and compliance negotiations
  • Provide guidance on licensing terms during software procurement and contract reviews
  • Analyze licensing models and recommend cost-effective and compliant purchasing strategies

Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare regular reports on license usage, compliance status, and audit outcomes
  • Maintain detailed documentation of licenses, contracts, and entitlement records
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities related to software licensing

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Industry certifications (e.g., ITIL, CSAM, CITAM, or ISO/IEC 19770)
  • Experience with IT governance, audit, or compliance frameworks
  • Legal or contract review experience related to software licensing
  • Knowledge of cloud license compliance (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
