Key ResponsibilitiesOutpatient Responsibilities

  • Conduct preliminary assessment of orthopaedic patients in OPD, including history-taking and clinical examination.

  • Assist consultants with patient evaluation, procedures (e.g., plaster application, wound checks), and patient counselling.

  • Coordinate imaging, lab investigations, and follow-up appointments.

Inpatient Responsibilities

  • Manage admitted orthopaedic patients under consultant supervision.

  • Perform daily rounds, document progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries.

  • Monitor post-operative patients, manage drains, dressings, pain control, and early mobilization.

  • Communicate updates to consultants and coordinate rehabilitation planning with physiotherapy.

Emergency & Trauma Care

  • Assist in initial evaluation and stabilization of trauma patients.

  • Apply splints, casts, traction devices, and manage acute orthopaedic injuries.

  • Support emergency procedures and pre-operative planning.

Peri-operative Support

  • Assist consultants in the operating theatre, including preparation, positioning, and intra-operative support.

  • Ensure availability of implants, instruments, and necessary consumables.

  • Follow strict aseptic protocols and patient-safety checklists.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records (OPD, IPD, OT, emergency).

  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection control, and surgical safety standards.

  • Assist with medical audits and adherence to clinical pathways.

Patient Education & Communication

  • Provide clear instructions to patients and families regarding diagnosis, procedures, medications, and post-operative care.

  • Support discharge counselling and coordination with rehabilitation services.

Academic & Professional Development

  • Participate in departmental academic activities such as case discussions, journal clubs, and CMEs.

  • Engage in clinical research or data collection as directed.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of orthopaedic treatment guidelines and best practices.
