Section Manager – Market Operations- Global Cash Services -Sanctions Control Team
Job Summary
Sanction control team is responsible for providing Operational Support for Wealth Management, Asset Servicing and Asset Management clients of Northern Trust. This position is responsible for managing the Sanctions control Team covering APAC, NA and EMEA time zones. The job involves leading/managing a team of Analysts, Senior Analysts, Technical Coordinators and Team Leader. This position would report to the Division Manager / Practice Lead Sanctions Control. Conducts the performance management process, identifies training and development needs, and establishes performance standards for the relevant groups. Makes staffing decisions, and ensures resources are available to accomplish priorities. Manages and directs individuals within the relevant groups, usually through relevant direct reports. Participates in developing/provides input and support to the strategic plan and budget management process.

Major Duties

  • Overall responsibility/accountability for client delivery (BAU), migrations, driving automation/productivity/efficiency and people/career development programs.
  • Responsible for providing leadership and guidance to staff, fostering an environment that encourages employee engagement and teamwork.
  • Assist the senior management on preparation of Business oriented presentations and metrices.
  • Provide oversight and escalation point for unresolved issues.
  • Ensuring that the business objectives are being met. Assure appropriate senior management oversight and governance of BAU activities.
  • Responsible for the development and enforcement of controls within the operations of the unit to deliver a near to flawless standard of service.
  • Implement Sanctions Screening Controls, Monitoring & Consolidating scenarios and thresholds.
  • Understand systems, provide feedback for improvement, engage in upgrades / enhancements.
  • Accountable for ensuring that adequate operations controls are implemented, risks are mitigated, and processes are compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Makes staffing decisions, and ensures resources are available to accomplish priorities. Builds a diverse team through recruiting, hiring and succession planning.
  • Conducts the performance management process including salary reviews, identifies training and development needs, and establishes performance standards for the division/unit. Supports individual career aspirations with lateral movement to new roles or growth and tenure in current roles.
  • Assumes accountability for liaising cross-function to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity.
  • Strong technical and people manager with leadership qualities to think and act strategically.
  • Focus on leading and developing people through continuous mentoring / coaching.
  • Effectively monitor the volume and timeliness reports to ensure turnaround time are met consistently. Come- up with strategies to increase STP rate and reduce false positives in sanction screening.

  • Strong knowledge of financial / capital markets, SWIFT Network and MT/ MX messages. Need to understand OFAC, Embargo and sanction screening.
  • Excellent desktop, IT, and systems skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential.
  • Knowledge of related systems: Fircosoft – Sanction screening application (preferred)
  • Individuals with certifications related to Sanctions/AML would be an added advantage.

Experience And Qualification

  • Minimum 10 to 12 + years of work experience in financial industry with at least 36 months of people management experience. Experience in sanction screening related activities is a must.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
  • Ready to work in night shift.

Eligibility

  • 3 years as a Team leader to move as a Section Manager currently at an officer Level
  • Movement within Senior Consultant and Section Manager is applicable if they have prior 36 months of people management experience

Shift Time

  • Night Shift (Shift start – 6:30PM IST)
