Role Overview:
As a L6 – Supervisor – Medical Coding , you will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the activities of the medical coding team. Your primary role will involve managing the team's daily operations, ensuring adherence to coding standards, and promoting accuracy and efficiency in the coding process. You will provide leadership, guidance, and training to the team, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and act as the key liaison between the coding team and other departments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Supervision: Lead and manage the medical coding team, ensuring adherence to coding guidelines, timely processing, and maintaining team productivity.
- Quality Control: Regularly monitor and assess the accuracy of team members' coding to ensure compliance with industry standards and payer requirements.
- Training & Support: Provide ongoing training to the team on coding best practices, updates to coding guidelines, and system enhancements.
- Process Optimization: Identify opportunities for process improvement to enhance the quality, efficiency, and accuracy of the coding workflow.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the coding practices of the team align with relevant healthcare regulations, payer requirements, and organizational policies.
- Reporting & Analysis: Prepare detailed reports on coding productivity, quality, and team performance. Analyze trends and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Collaboration with Departments: Work closely with other departments like billing, compliance, and revenue cycle management to address coding-related issues and ensure seamless processes.
- Problem Resolution: Address and resolve complex coding discrepancies or issues, providing support to the team and offering solutions for complex coding challenges.
Desired Candidate Profile:
- Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Health Information Management, or a related field.
- Certification as a CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in medical coding, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or coordinator role.
- Strong knowledge of medical coding systems (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS) and healthcare regulations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to analyze data, recognize trends, and drive process improvements.
- Experience with coding software and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
