Position Overview

Koshys Group of Institutions, a leading canter for education in visual arts, is seeking an experienced and dynamic
Professor of Graphic Design
to join its
Department of Visual Arts
. The ideal candidate will possess a
minimum of 5 years of teaching experience at a university or college level
combined with substantial
industry production expertise
.

This position offers an opportunity to shape the future of creative professionals by guiding students to develop a strong foundation in
visual communication, design thinking, and production workflows
. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in aligning academic programs with industry standards, mentoring students in both technical and conceptual skills, and contributing to the growth of the department as a hub of creative excellence.

Key Responsibilities
1. Teaching & Curriculum Delivery

  • Conduct lectures, studio sessions, and workshops in core areas of graphic design including:
  • Visual Communication & Design Principles
  • Typography, Lettering, and Calligraphy
  • Branding, Identity, and Packaging Design
  • Digital Illustration & Layout Design
  • Colour Theory, Composition, and Visual Storytelling
  • Pre-Press & Print Production Techniques
  • Fundamentals of Motion Graphics and UI/UX Design (preferred but optional)
  • Engage students in hands-on practical learning using both
    traditional art methods and modern digital tools
    .
  • Integrate current industry trends, technologies, and production practices into teaching materials.
  • Evaluate students' academic performance through assignments, project work, presentations, and examinations.
  • Provide individual guidance to students in building strong professional portfolios for careers in advertising, branding, publishing, and digital media.

2. Student Mentorship & Professional Development

  • Supervise students' creative projects, internships, and capstone work to ensure they meet both academic and professional standards.
  • Mentor students in developing skills relevant to careers in agencies, design studios, print production, and digital platforms.
  • Encourage participation in design competitions, exhibitions, workshops, and national/international events to broaden their exposure.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, critical thinking, and ethical design practices.

3. Industry Engagement & Production Integration

  • Bring practical knowledge of
    real-world production workflows
    to bridge the gap between academics and professional practice.
  • Teach students about
    color management, pre-press techniques, print and digital output standards
    , and modern production technologies.
  • Facilitate partnerships with creative agencies, print houses, and production studios to create internship opportunities and live projects for students.
  • Organize guest lectures, industry talks, and collaborative workshops with leading designers and production experts.

4. Research & Departmental Contribution

  • Participate in curriculum development and regularly update course content to ensure relevance to evolving industry standards.
  • Engage in research, creative practice, or publications to enhance personal and institutional academic credentials.
  • Contribute to the department's initiatives such as
    Kalaparva
    (intercollegiate art exhibition), conferences, seminars, and community outreach programs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the
    Animation & Multimedia
    and
    Visual Communication
    disciplines for interdisciplinary projects.
  • Support the Head of Department in planning, organizing, and executing departmental goals and events.

Qualifications & Experience
Educational Requirements

  • Master's degree in
    Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Applied Arts, or a related field
    from a recognized university.
  • A
    PhD
    in the relevant field is preferred but not mandatory.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum
    5 years of full-time teaching experience at the university or college level
    , preferably in visual arts or design programs.
  • Proven
    industry production experience
    in a professional environment such as a design studio, advertising agency, branding firm, or print/digital production unit.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing expertise in
    branding, typography, packaging, digital layouts, and production workflows
    .

Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Proficiency:
    Advanced knowledge of industry-standard software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects) and familiarity with tools for digital production and prototyping.
  • Production Knowledge:
    Strong understanding of pre-press workflows, color calibration, printing processes, and digital production techniques.
  • Creative Leadership:
    Ability to inspire creativity and innovation in students while maintaining high academic standards.
  • Teaching Excellence:
    Exceptional communication, presentation, and mentoring skills with the ability to engage students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Collaborative Spirit:
    Willingness to work closely with faculty, students, and industry professionals to foster an inclusive and collaborative learning environment.
