Stress Engineer

Job Purpose:
To lead and execute Finite Element (FE) modelling and analysis of rail domain structures and components in accordance with international and customer-specific standards. The role involves developing detailed FE models using HyperMesh, performing advanced analyses in OptiStruct, validating results, and providing design recommendations to ensure structural integrity, durability, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead FE modelling and simulation activities for rail domain components such as car bodies, underframes, bogies, crash structures, and interiors.
- Create high-quality Finite Element Models (FEM) using HyperMesh, ensuring mesh quality, connectivity, and modeling accuracy.
- Perform linear static, non-linear, modal, fatigue, and crash analyses using OptiStruct and interpret results effectively.
- Ensure compliance with rail industry standards (EN 12663, EN 15227, UIC, AAR, ISO, etc.) and customer requirements.
- Review design concepts and support design optimization for weight reduction, strength, and stiffness improvement.
- Conduct validation and correlation of simulation results with physical test data.
- Prepare detailed analysis documentation, reports, and presentations for internal and customer reviews.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers in FE modelling and simulation practices.
- Support process improvement initiatives and develop best practices, templates, and automation scripts for FE workflows.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with design, materials, manufacturing, and test teams throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's / Master's degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace, or Structural Engineering.
- 5–10 years of hands-on experience in FE modelling and analysis, preferably in the rail domain or similar heavy engineering sectors.
- Strong expertise in HyperMesh for pre-processing and OptiStruct for structural analysis.
- Experience with post-processing tools like HyperView, HyperGraph, or similar.
- Sound understanding of material properties, joints, welds, fasteners, and boundary conditions relevant to rail structures.
- Practical knowledge of industry standards: EN 12663, EN 15227, UIC, etc.
- Proven ability to interpret design data, define load cases, and assess stress, deformation, and fatigue life.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
