Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer to specialize in the development and management of Intelligent Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs). This is a critical role that bridges process engineering with detailed design. You will be responsible for translating process flow diagrams and engineering data into data-rich, intelligent P&IDs that serve as the single source of truth for the project's piping, instrumentation, and equipment data.

Your work will form the essential blueprint used by the 3D design, procurement, and construction teams. The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical engineering background combined with expertise in modern, database-driven P&ID software.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, draft, and maintain Intelligent P&IDs based on Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and input from process and mechanical engineers.
  • Utilize specialized software (such as SmartPlant P&ID, AVEVA Diagrams, or AutoCAD P&ID) to create schematic diagrams where each component contains rich data.
  • Apply and enforce project standards for symbology (per ISA S5.1 standards), layers, and line styles.
  • Implement and manage the project's tagging and numbering system for all process lines, equipment, valves, and instruments within the P&ID database.
  • Ensure the integrity and consistency of the underlying P&ID database, performing regular quality checks and validation.
  • Collaborate closely with Process Engineers to accurately represent process flows, control loops, safety instrumented systems (SIS), and operational logic.
  • Generate key engineering deliverables directly from the intelligent P&ID database, such as Line Lists, Valve Lists, Equipment Lists, and Instrument Indexes.
  • Coordinate with the 3D Piping Design team to ensure a seamless transfer of data from the 2D schematic to the 3D model.
  • Participate in P&ID review meetings and effectively manage and incorporate design changes and markups from all disciplines.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Experience: 5 years of experience in an engineering environment with direct responsibility for creating and managing P&IDs for process plants or similar industrial projects.

  • Software Proficiency:

  • Mandatory hands-on experience with at least one intelligent P&ID software: SmartPlant P&ID (SPP&ID), AVEVA Diagrams, or AutoCAD P&ID.

  • Proficiency in standard AutoCAD is expected.

  • Technical Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of P&ID symbology, layout conventions, and best practices.

  • Solid grasp of mechanical equipment (pumps, heat exchangers, pressure vessels), piping components (valves, fittings), and common instrumentation.

  • Familiarity with relevant engineering codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API).
