Role Overview

The
Academic Research Analyst

will play a crucial role in shaping Filo's academic and product strategy. This individual will research and analyze competitor offerings (e.g., Wyzant, Varsity Tutors, Superprof, Preply, etc.), study academic taxonomies, benchmark course structures, and recommend subject packaging and new course opportunities across global curricula.

Key Responsibilities

Market & Competitor Research

  • Conduct in-depth research on leading tutoring and EdTech competitors to analyze their academic offerings, pricing models, and course structures.
  • Benchmark subject coverage, course formats, and learning pathways across platforms.
  • Identify gaps and emerging opportunities in academic and co-curricular subject areas.

Academic Taxonomy & Course Design

  • Map subjects, grades, and topics across multiple curricula (CBSE, ICSE, IB, IGCSE, American, British, etc.).
  • Develop and maintain a standardized
    academic taxonomy

for Filo's platform.
- Work with curriculum and content teams to design modular course structures aligned with global standards.

Product & Packaging Strategy

  • Collaborate with the Product and Marketing teams to define course packages and learning bundles (e.g., subject-wise, skill-based, exam-focused).
  • Recommend course hierarchy and naming conventions for website categorization and SEO alignment.
  • Propose new academic and enrichment program ideas based on market trends and learner demand.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Partner with academic experts, curriculum specialists, and data analysts to validate findings.
  • Prepare detailed research reports, dashboards, and competitor insights for leadership teams.

Qualifications & Skills

Must-Have:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, Economics, Business, or related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience in academic research, curriculum design, market research, or EdTech analysis.
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
  • Excellent written communication and report-writing abilities.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to synthesize large datasets into actionable insights.

Good-to-Have:

  • Experience with global K–12 or test-prep curricula (CBSE, IB, IGCSE, AP, etc.).
  • Prior experience in EdTech or educational product development.
  • Familiarity with research tools like Excel, Notion, Airtable, Power BI, or similar.
  • Basic understanding of SEO and website taxonomy design.
