Lead Data Scientist

Role Overview
We're seeking a talented Lead Data Scientist to join our Finance Analytics team. In this role, you'll analyze financial data to drive insights, identify patterns, and recommend automation opportunities within our finance and accounting functions. You'll apply your technical expertise in data engineering and advanced analytics to transform raw financial data into meaningful insights, working collaboratively with finance teams to understand business needs

Key Accountabilities/Decision Making & Influence

• Apply advanced analytics techniques to extract insights from financial data sets
• Build and optimize data pipelines using Python, Spark, and SQL to prepare data for analysis
• Develop and implement machine learning models to identify patterns, anomalies, and opportunities for automation
• Create interactive dashboards and visualizations using BI tools that communicate key insights effectively
• Collaborate with finance teams to understand their data needs and translate them into analytical solutions
• Identify and track relevant metrics that provide meaningful business intelligence
• Support data-driven decision making by presenting clear, actionable findings
• Conduct exploratory data analysis to uncover trends and relationships in financial data
• Mentor junior data scientists on analytical techniques and best practices
• Implement statistical analysis methods to validate findings and ensure data quality
• Document methodologies, processes, and results to ensure reproducibility and knowledge sharing

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes

• 5-7 years of experience in data science or analytics, with exposure to financial or business data
• Strong technical background in data engineering and pipeline development
• Advanced proficiency in Python and experience with Spark for large-scale data processing
• Experience working with data from Snowflake Data Lake or similar cloud-based data platforms
• Demonstrated skill in building dashboards and visualizations using BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, Looker, etc.)
• Proficiency in SQL for data extraction and manipulation
• Experience applying machine learning algorithms to solve business problems
• Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Understanding of basic financial concepts and metrics (no deep finance expertise required)
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Data Science, Statistics, or related technical field

• Familiarity with agile methodologies and collaborative development practices
• Experience with version control systems (Git) and collaborative coding
• Knowledge of cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Understanding of data governance and data quality best practices
• Demonstrates curiosity and a willingness to learn about finance and accounting concepts
• Shows creativity in presenting data insights through effective visualizations
• Maintains a continuous learning mindset, staying updated with emerging technologies and techniques in data science
