Job Summary:
The Veterinary Assistant at Legit Farms will support the daily health, care, and welfare of all poultry and livestock on the farm. This role involves assisting the veterinarian/ farm manager in routine health checks, administering medications, maintaining hygiene standards, and monitoring animal behaviour to ensure optimal farm productivity and biosecurity.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in daily health monitoring of birds and livestock, reporting abnormalities immediately.
- Support the veterinarian/farm manager during examinations, treatments, and vaccination programs.
- Administer medicines, feed supplements, and vaccinations as instructed.
- Maintain proper records of treatments, vaccinations, mortality, and feed consumption.
- Ensure cleanliness and sanitization of sheds, equipment, feeding areas, and water lines.
- Help implement biosecurity measures across the farm, including disinfection and controlled access.
- Assist in egg collection, grading, and handling procedures when required.
- Observe animal behaviour to detect early signs of illness or stress.
- Support in managing injured, sick, or isolated birds as per protocol.
- Coordinate with the feed preparation team to ensure proper feed quality and timely distribution.
- Maintain veterinary supplies and report requirements for medicines, vitamins, and equipment.
- Follow safety guidelines and ensure compliance with farm policies.
Qualifications & Skills
- Diploma/Certification in Veterinary Science, Animal Husbandry, or related field (Required).
- Minimum 0–3 years of experience in poultry or livestock farm operations (freshers may also apply).
- Basic knowledge of animal health, vaccination schedules, and farm hygiene practices.
- Ability to handle birds and livestock safely and confidently.
- Strong observation skills and attention to detail.
- Physically fit and able to perform farm-related tasks.
- Willingness to work in rotational shifts and rural farm conditions.
