Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Payroll Team Leader to manage and oversee global payroll operations at AVASO. In this leadership role, you will guide a team of payroll professionals, ensure flawless payroll execution across regions, maintain statutory compliance, and drive operational excellence. The ideal candidate brings strong payroll expertise, leadership capability, and the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders. You will act as the strategic owner of payroll processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and ongoing transformation aligned with AVASO's organizational goals.
Objectives of this Role
- Lead and manage the payroll team to ensure end-to-end processing of global payroll with precision and timeliness.
- Serve as the key authority on payroll processes, compliance, taxation, and statutory obligations across multiple countries.
- Prepare, implement, and continuously improve payroll governance frameworks, SOPs, and internal controls.
- Partner with HR, Finance, and IT teams to ensure seamless flow of payroll inputs, integration with systems, and accurate reporting.
- Identify process gaps, lead automation and transformation initiatives, and enhance the overall payroll function.
- Resolve high-complexity payroll scenarios and act as the final escalation point for critical issues.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Operations
Lead, mentor, and manage payroll team members to ensure consistent performance, accuracy, and professional development.
- Oversee global payroll cycles—validating inputs, reviewing outputs, and ensuring timely disbursement and statutory compliance.
- Allocate work, manage capacity, and ensure adherence to SLAs and compliance standards.
- Facilitate regular team reviews, training, and best practice dissemination.
Ensuring the team members KRA, KPI defined.
Payroll Governance & Compliance
Establish, maintain, and enforce payroll policies, SOPs, controls, and audit frameworks.
- Ensure full compliance with labor laws, tax regulations, and reporting obligations across all regions.
- Lead payroll audits, risk mitigation, and statutory reconciliations.
Maintain documentation and ensure readiness for internal/external audits.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with HR for employee data governance and with Finance for journal entries, payroll accounting, budgeting, and cost analysis.
- Coordinate with IT and system partners on payroll system upgrades, automation, and integrations.
Manage relationships with external payroll vendors, consultants, and statutory authorities.
Data Validation & Management, Reporting & Insights
Perform payroll reconciliations, review exception reports, and ensure accuracy of all payroll transactions.
- Develop and present dashboards, compliance metrics, variance reports, and analytics to senior leadership.
- Ensure precise journal posting in systems such as Zoho Books, Xero, and SAP S4 HANA.
- Monthly, yearly reporting which outcome entire payrolling requirements.
- Providing insights into payroll data to support decision-making to Management.
- Ensuring data integrity and accuracy within the payroll system.
Implementing data security measures to protect employee information.
Transformation & Continuous Improvement
Lead payroll modernization initiatives including automation, digitization, and system enhancement projects.
- Implement process improvements aligned with global standards, ensuring scalability and operational resilience.
- Stay updated on global payroll legislation, regulatory changes, and incorporate necessary modifications proactively.
Qualifications & Skills
Experience
- 6–10 years of hands-on payroll operations experience, with at least 3+ years in a leadership or team management role.
- Proven experience handling multi-country/global payroll environments.
Education
- MBA/M. Com/BBA/B. Com or relevant degree in Finance or Accounting.
Technical Expertise
- Strong command of MS Excel (advanced), PowerPoint, and data analytics.
- Expertise in payroll systems and accounting tools such as Xero, Zoho Books, and SAP S4 HANA.
- Deep knowledge of payroll accounting, taxation structures, statutory filings, and compliance workflows.
