  • Planning and organizing
    Supervisors plan and organize work to achieve the organization's goals. They assign work to employees based on their skills and roles. 


  • Providing guidance
    Supervisors provide guidance, feedback, and training to employees. They also set performance goals and ensure employees understand their expectations. 


  • Communicating
    Supervisors communicate with employees and upper management. They relay information from upper management to employees and vice versa. 


  • Enforcing policies
    Supervisors ensure employees comply with company and legal policies and procedures. They may also take disciplinary action if needed. 


  • Handling issues
    Supervisors handle customer issues and employee disputes. They may also work with HR on labor contract matters. 


  • Onboarding
    Supervisors train and onboard new employees. They also orient employees to their position and relevant HR and labor contract information. 


  • Reporting
    Supervisors report performance records and evaluations to HR and senior management. They may also account to their manager for their own performance. 

    Supervisors may also be responsible for: Controlling budget information, Overseeing the handling of money, Establishing accountability for registers, Ensuring a clean workplace, and Ensuring customer satisfaction. 

    Supervisors are often referred to as leads, foremen, bosses, overseers, facilitators, monitors, area coordinators, or line-managers.
