We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Coder to join our healthcare team. The Medical Coder will be responsible for scrubbing claims, handling coding denials, accurately translating medical records and documentation into standardized alphanumeric codes used for billing and insurance purposes. The ideal candidate must have a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding systems (such as ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS), and compliance with federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze medical records and physician documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assign appropriate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes based on the clinical documentation.
  • Ensure codes are assigned correctly for procedures, diagnoses, and services rendered.
  • Validate codes with physicians and other healthcare providers as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with medical coding guidelines and federal regulations, including HIPAA.
  • Submit coded documentation to billing or insurance providers in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with billing departments to resolve coding issues or denials.
  • Participate in audits and implement necessary corrections.
  • Stay updated with changes in coding guidelines and payer requirements.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required); associate degree or higher in Health Information Management or a related field (preferred).
  • 13 years of experience in medical coding (preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Proficient in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II coding systems.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and coding software.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain productivity.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in a specialty (e.g., Orthopedics, Interventional Pain Management) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance coding policies.
  • Effective communication skills to liaise with clinical and billing teams.
