Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Incoming Material Inspection
  • Inspect and verify the quality of raw materials such as scrap, ferro alloys, sand, chemicals, and consumables.
  • Ensure proper identification and traceability of materials as per inspection standards.
  • In-Process Inspection
  • Conduct visual and dimensional inspection of moulds, cores, and patterns before pouring.
  • Verify metal chemistry through spectrometer readings and record heat numbers.
  • Check melt parameters, pouring temperature, and moulding quality.
  • Perform in-process inspection during fettling, grinding, and machining stages.
  • Final Inspection
  • Inspect final castings for dimensional accuracy using gauges, micrometers, and CMM (if applicable).
  • Check surface finish, defects (cracks, porosity, shrinkage), and ensure compliance with drawings/specifications.
  • Testing & Documentation
  • Prepare inspection reports, deviation notes, and maintain records for traceability.
  • Collect and submit test coupons for mechanical, chemical, and metallurgical testing.
  • Support calibration and upkeep of inspection instruments and gauges.
  • Customer Quality Assurance
  • Participate in customer inspection and third-party inspection activities.
  • Communicate non-conformances and assist in root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Compliance & System
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and other relevant quality standards.
  • Follow internal quality procedures, work instructions, and 5S practices in the inspection area.

Knowledge:

  • Foundry processes (melting, moulding, heat treatment, machining).
  • Dimensional inspection and NDT methods.
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Use of precision measuring instruments (Vernier, Micrometer, Height gauge, CMM).

Skills Required:

  • Strong attention to detail and observation skills.
  • Good understanding of quality standards and inspection tools.
  • Computer literacy for data entry and reporting.
  • Ability to identify defects and suggest process improvements.
  • Effective communication and teamwork.
