Job Description: Assistant Manager/Deputy Manager, Legal

Location: Bangalore

Department: Legal & Secretarial Compliance

Reports To: Head-Finance & Legal

Job Purpose

To safeguard the organization's interests by designing and overseeing legal processes, ensuring statutory compliance, mitigating legal risks, and providing strategic legal support across business functions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Legal Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure compliance with statutory laws and regulations across business operations.
  • Monitor, audit, and address compliance gaps; respond to notices from statutory bodies.
  • Keep the organization updated on changes in legislation and regulatory frameworks.

2. Contract Management

  • Draft, review, and standardize agreements with suppliers, customers, contract manufacturers, and partners across geographies.
  • Maintain an organized database of legal agreements and ensure timely renewals.
  • Safeguard company interests by eliminating contractual loopholes and ambiguities.

3. Litigation & Dispute Resolution

  • Handle litigations, arbitrations, and coordinate with external counsels for favorable outcomes.
  • Draft and review appeals, notices, and legal documents for timely submissions.
  • Advise management on legal risks and strategies for effective resolution.

4. Secretarial Compliance

  • Work closely with the Company Secretary for board meetings, minutes, and ROC filings.
  • Ensure compliance with Companies Act and corporate governance requirements.

5. Business Support & Advisory

  • Provide proactive legal guidance to business units (AHP/HHP) on labeling, marketing, pricing, and regulatory matters.
  • Advise teams on compliance with industry-specific legislations (e.g., Drugs & Cosmetics Act, Environmental Acts).
  • Liaise with government authorities, regulators, and industry associations.
  • Support IP management including trademarks, patents, and renewals.

6. People Management

  • Build, lead, and develop a capable and motivated legal team.
  • Drive a culture of compliance, continuous learning, and collaboration across functions.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Master's degree in Law (specialization in Constitutional, Criminal, International Business, or Intellectual Property laws preferred).
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in FMCG, Herbal, or Pharma industries.
  • Strong expertise in contract drafting, litigation management, and regulatory compliance.
