Job Description Cognos Admin / BI Support Specialist (Power BI)

Position: Cognos Administrator / BI Support Engineer

Experience Required: 3.6 6 Years

Location: Pune

Shift Timing: 2:00 PM 11:00 PM (India Time)

Payroll: SAGE IT (On Roll)

Client: Deployment at Client Location (Telecom Domain Long-Term Project)

Work Mode: 3 Days Work From Office (WFO) & 2 Days Work From Home (WFH)

Role Overview:

We are hiring a Cognos Administrator with experience managing BI tools and report servers in a production environment. You will be on SAGE IT payroll and deployed at a telecom-sector client for a long-term project. The role involves administration of Cognos environments, report deployment, user management, troubleshooting, and exposure to Power BI or other BI tools for report visualization or migration support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform installation, configuration, and administration of IBM Cognos Analytics environments.
  • Manage Cognos services, security, role-based access control, LDAP integration and content store backup/restore.
  • Monitor report schedules, troubleshoot failed reports, and tune performance for faster report delivery.
  • Work closely with business teams to deploy new reports, manage report packages, and resolve production incidents.
  • Provide BI support and coordinate with L2/L3 teams for escalation issues.
  • Exposure to Power BI dashboards: creating or supporting visuals, data models, or supporting a migration roadmap from Cognos to Power BI (preferred).
  • Implement best practices for security, auditing, backup, disaster recovery for Cognos.
  • Integrate reports with external applications or data sources.
  • Work flexible hours (2 pm – 11 pm shift) to support business stakeholders.

Technical Skills Required:

Must Have:

  • 3–6 years of experience as Cognos Administrator (BI), Cognos Analytics 11.x or Cognos BI 10.x.
  • User & server administration, report deployment, troubleshooting, security management.
  • Linux/Windows server basics for Cognos environment.
  • Database connectivity for reporting – Oracle / SQL Server / DB2

Good to Have:

  • Power BI / Tableau / Other BI reporting tools exposure
  • Experience in Telecom domain reporting or KPI dashboards
  • Scripting knowledge (batch, PowerShell, Python)
  • Understanding of Power BI Gateway, DAX, data models (preferred)

Soft Skills:

  • Strong communication skills to coordinate with client managers and business users
  • Ability to handle incidents independently and act as single point of contact for Cognos issues
  • Proactive approach for monitoring and maintenance
