We are looking for an IBM i (AS400) professional with 6–8 years of experience working on IBM i-Series (AS/400) platforms and modern IBM i environments. The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of IBM i architecture, programming methodologies, and system operations.

Experience with Rocket Software CM Kit (CM Insights, CM MX, CM API) and awareness of DevOps practices on IBM i are considered strong "good-to-have" skills. The role will involve working on legacy AS400 applications while supporting modernization initiatives using Rocket's CM Kit and integration with APIs, modern UIs, and cloud ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities

  • AS400 Development & Maintenance

o Design, develop, and maintain applications on IBM i / AS400 using RPG (RPG IV / ILE RPG), CL, COBOL, SQL.

o Troubleshoot and optimize performance of AS400 programs.

o Manage and maintain database files, physical/logical files, and system configurations.

o Understanding of Jobs and sub-systems is necessary.

  • Application Modernization (Good to Have)

o Support modernization efforts leveraging Rocket Software's CM Kit (CM Insights, CM MX, CM API).

o Assist in transforming 5250 green-screen applications into modern web/mobile UIs using CM MX.

o Participate in exposing IBM i business logic as REST APIs via CM API for integration with enterprise systems.

  • DevOps and CI/CD (Good to Have)

o Awareness of integrating IBM i applications into CI/CD pipelines with tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.

o Contribute to improving deployment efficiency, test automation, and change governance.

  • System Architecture & Methodologies

o Apply a clear understanding of IBM i-Series system architecture, methodologies, and lifecycle management.

o Collaborate with business analysts, architects, and cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of AS400 applications with modernization roadmaps.

  • Documentation & Support

o Create technical documentation, program specifications, and test plans.

o Provide L2/L3 support for IBM i applications and assist in problem resolution.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 6–8 years of hands-on experience in AS400 / IBM i programming and support.
  • Strong command of RPG (RPG IV / ILE RPG), CL, COBOL, SQL/DB2.
  • Solid understanding of IBM i architecture, job scheduling, batch processes, and system commands.
  • Good knowledge of AS400 programming methodologies and system architecture.
  • Experience in analyzing existing AS400 programs and recommending improvements.
