Job Description:
A Safety & Security Head of Department (HOD) job description includes strategic planning, risk assessment, and policy development for the entire organization. Key responsibilities include managing the security team, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and overseeing all aspects of physical security, emergency response, and safety training. The role requires a strong leader capable of liaising with government agencies and other departments, handling investigations, and reporting to senior management. 
 
Strategic and leadership responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the organization's overall security and safety strategy.
  • Manage, train, and appraise the security and safety team, including recruitment and performance management.
  • Conduct risk assessments and maintain mechanisms for risk mitigation.
  • Develop and deliver presentations and proposals related to security and safety plans.
  • Liaise with external agencies like police and government bodies on security matters. 
 
Operational responsibilities
  • Oversee daily security operations, such as access control, patrols, and monitoring security footage.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and company policies.
  • Manage the preparation and delivery of safety training programs for employees.
  • Respond to emergencies and lead the emergency response team during incidents.
  • Conduct investigations into security breaches, accidents, and safety violations. 
 
Administrative and reporting responsibilities
  • Maintain records of safety incidents, employee health information, and other relevant data.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on security and safety performance to management.
  • Manage the selection and maintenance of security and safety equipment.
  • Develop and review contingency plans, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and other necessary documentation.
