Role Description
An accountant role requiring the Arabic language generally includes
standard accounting duties along with specific responsibilities that leverage the language skill, such as managing accounts in the Middle East, translating financial documents, and ensuring compliance with local (e.g., UAE, Saudi) financial regulations.
Core Responsibilities
The general duties of an accountant are consistent, regardless of language skills, and include:
- Financial Management & Reporting: Maintaining accurate financial records, including general ledger accounts, trial balances, and financial statements (P&L, balance sheets, cash flow statements).
- Accounts Payable & Receivable: Managing invoices, processing payments, monitoring outstanding debts, and implementing collection procedures.
- Reconciliations and Audits: Performing timely bank reconciliations, managing intercompany accounts, assisting with internal and external audits, and preparing necessary documentation.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Assisting in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts, analyzing variances, and making recommendations for cost control.
- Compliance & Tax: Ensuring compliance with internal policies, international standards (like IFRS), and local tax laws (e.g., UAE VAT laws).
Specific Duties for an Arabic-Speaking Accountant
The need for Arabic fluency often translates to these additional specific tasks:
- Communication with Stakeholders: Serving as the primary point of contact for Arabic-speaking clients, suppliers, and internal teams, ensuring effective communication and collaboration in both written and spoken Arabic.
- Documentation and Translation: Preparing, reviewing, and translating financial documents, reports, and invoices between English and Arabic to ensure all records meet local legal and regulatory requirements.
- Regional Compliance Expertise: Applying a strong understanding of specific accounting regulations and tax laws within the Middle East/GCC region (e.g., DMCC regulations, Saudi Arabian accounting practices).
- Local Operations Management: Handling financial operations for local offices, which may involve specific local systems like WPS (Wages Protection System) processing in the UAE.
Key Qualifications
