A Solution Specialist Architect (Azure) is a senior-level professional responsible for designing, Microsoft Azure solutions for enterprises.

This role combines deep technical expertise with strategic business acumen, often working closely with clients, technical teams, and stakeholders to deliver scalable and secure cloud architectures.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Design

  • Design end-to-end Azure-based solutions (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) for customers with 200+ nodes.
  • Define enterprise cloud architecture strategies based on business requirements.
  • Select appropriate Azure services to meet performance, scalability, and cost requirements.
  • Provide guidance on migration from on-prem/AWS/GCP to Azure.
  • Define CI/CD pipelines and DevOps best practices on Azure

Technical Leadership

  • Guide technical delivery team on the chosen solution at kickoff

  • Ensure smooth pre-sales to delivery team handover

  • Customer Engagement

  • Work with customers to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions.

  • Present architecture solutions and roadmaps to stakeholders and executives.

  • Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure solutions meet security, compliance, and governance standards.

  • Implement role-based access control, encryption, and Azure Policy.

  • Optimisation

  • Analyse architecture for best performance and cost balance

  • Analyse resource consumption and suggest architecture changes for cost optimisation, improved security etc.

Key Skills & Tools

  • Cloud Platforms: Microsoft Azure (mandatory)
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): ARM templates, Bicep, Terraform
  • DevOps Tools: Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins
  • Programming/Scripting: PowerShell, Python, .NET, or JavaScript
  • Security & Identity: Azure AD, Key Vault, RBAC, Network Security Groups
  • Data & Storage: Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, Azure Blob Storage, Data Lake
  • Networking: Azure Virtual Network, ExpressRoute, VPN Gateway, Load Balancers

Certifications (Highly Recommended)

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate
  • TOGAF or other enterprise architecture frameworks (optional but valued)

Typical Background

  • 10+ years in IT, with at least 35 years of Azure experience
  • Experience in enterprise-level architecture design
  • Familiar with Agile/DevOps environments
  • Often comes from a systems engineer, cloud engineer, or developer background
