The Robotic Trainer is responsible for developing, delivering, and evaluating training programs related to the operation, programming, maintenance, and troubleshooting of industrial and/or service robots. This role plays a critical part in upskilling students/trainees, ensuring safe and efficient robotic operations, and maximizing the return on investment in robotic technology. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in robotics, exceptional communication and instructional skills, a proven track record of teaching both students and adult professionals, a passion for knowledge transfer within an industrial context, and experience in developing successful proposals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development:
  • Design, develop, and update comprehensive training curricula, modules, and materials (e.g., presentations, manuals, exercises, simulations) for various robotic platforms and applications.
  • Identify training needs through collaboration with engineering, production, and maintenance teams, and assess skill gaps.
  • Incorporate industry best practices, safety standards (e.g., ISO 10218, RIA TR R15.06), and company-specific procedures into training content.
  • Training Delivery:
  • Conduct engaging and effective hands-on and classroom-based training sessions for diverse audiences, including students, engineers, technicians, operators, and maintenance personnel.
  • Provide clear and concise instruction on robot programming (e.g., teach pendant, offline programming software), operation, calibration, routine maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting techniques.
  • Facilitate practical exercises, simulations, and real-world scenarios to reinforce learning and develop practical skills.
  • Adapt training delivery methods and content to suit different learning styles and technical proficiencies.
  • Assessment & Evaluation:
  • Develop and administer assessments (e.g., quizzes, practical tests) to evaluate trainee comprehension and skill acquisition.
  • Provide constructive feedback to trainees and track their progress.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and materials, and recommend improvements based on feedback and performance metrics.
  • Technical Expertise & Support:
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in robotics technology, software, and industry trends.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and provide technical support and guidance to students/trainees regarding robotic systems.
  • Assist in the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols related to robotics.
  • Troubleshoot complex robotic issues and use real-world examples in training.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of training sessions, attendance, and trainee performance.
  • Prepare training reports and provide updates to management on training progress and effectiveness.
  • Document new training procedures and updates to existing materials.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
  • Work closely with engineers, maintenance technicians, production supervisors, and equipment vendors to ensure training aligns with operational needs and equipment specifications.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization regarding training schedules, requirements, and outcomes.
  • Develop and present training proposals, outlining scope, objectives, methodology, timelines, and resource requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Automation, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related technical field.
  • Relevant certifications in specific robot brands (e.g., FANUC, KUKA, ABB, Universal Robots, Yaskawa, Kawasaki) are highly desirable.
  • Formal training or certification in adult education or instructional design is a plus.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 - 5 years of hands-on experience with industrial robots (e.g., welding, assembly, material handling, pick-and-place, collaborative robots) in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Proven experience in programming, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting robotic systems.
  • Demonstrable experience teaching and training both students (e.g., academic, vocational, high school) and adult professionals (e.g., industry students/trainees, technicians, engineers).
  • Significant experience in delivering industry-specific training within manufacturing, automation, or a related technical sector.
  • Proven experience in developing and writing compelling technical proposals for training programs, projects, or grants.
  • Experience working on international projects or with diverse global teams is highly preferred.
  • Prior experience in a dedicated training, teaching, or instructional role is essential, preferably in a technical or industrial setting.
  • Technical Skills:
  • In-depth knowledge of robotic kinematics, dynamics, and control systems.
  • Proficiency in robot programming languages (e.g., KAREL, RAPID, TP, VAL, URScript, C++, Python for robotics).
  • Familiarity with various robot brands and their programming environments.
  • Understanding of PLC programming and integration with robotic systems.
  • Knowledge of robotic safety standards and risk assessment procedures.
  • Familiarity with vision systems, grippers, and other robotic peripherals.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software for offline programming is a plus.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Exceptional presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts in a clear, concise, and understandable manner.

  • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Working Conditions:

  • May involve working in a manufacturing or industrial environment, which may include exposure to noise, machinery, and varying temperatures.
  • Some travel may be required to other company locations or client sites for training delivery, including potential international travel.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift moderate weight, and perform hands-on demonstrations.
