Job Description

Role Title: Master Data Management (MDM) Specialist

Reporting To: Assistant General Manager: IT Services

Initial Location of Posting: Vadodara Corporate office

Position Overview:

The Master Data Management Specialist is responsible for ensuring accuracy, consistency,

and integrity of all master data elements within the organization. This includes ownership and

governance of Material Master, Service Code Cataloguing, Vendor Master, and Customer

Master data domains. This role requires deep expertise in SAP MM (Materials Management)

and SAP PM (Plant Maintenance) modules, with a focus on continuous data quality

improvement and alignment with business processes.

Key Responsibilities (indicative not exhaustive)

1. Master Data Governance & Maintenance

Create, validate, and maintain Material Master, Service Master, Vendor

Master, and Customer Master data in SAP.

Ensure compliance with global and local data governance standards,

classification structures, and naming conventions.

Develop and maintain material and service code catalogues with standard

descriptions and categorization.

Ensure accurate linkage of data between PM and MM modules (e.g.,

material BOMs, equipment records, service entry sheets).

1. Data Quality & Compliance

Conduct regular data quality audits and implement corrective actions for discrepancies.

Maintain documentation for data standards, workflows, and change

management.

Support internal and external audits by providing accurate master data

reports and evidence.

Ensure adherence to company policies, regulatory requirements, and data

governance frameworks.

1. Process Improvement & SAP Expertise

Collaborate with functional teams (Procurement, Maintenance, Finance,

and Operations) to streamline master data processes.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives in SAP data management,

including automation and standardization.

Provide functional support for SAP PM and SAP MM modules related to

master data.

Support implementation and migration activities for SAP rollouts,

upgrades, and master data harmonization projects.

1. Stakeholder Engagement & Training

Act as the point of contact for master data-related queries and issue

resolution.

Train and support end-users in correct master data creation and usage

processes.

Collaborate with IT and business teams to define and enhance master

data management tools and workflows.

Experience:

10-12 years of experience in Master Data Management, with hands-on exposure to Material Master, Service Master, Vendor, and Customer Master domains.

• Must have a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in field maintenance activities.
• Proven expertise in SAP PM and MM modules (data structures, configuration understanding, and transactional impact).
• Experience in material and service code cataloguing, classification systems, and standardization (e.g., UNSPSC, ISO codes preferred).
  
  Exposure to data governance frameworks, cleansing tools, or MDM platforms
  
  (e.g., SAP MDG, etc.) is an advantage.
• Having knowledge of engineering documents review (P&ID, isometric drawing,
  
  data sheet etc.)
• Familiarity with data cleansing, enrichment and data governance and Taxonomy development.
• Knowing Inventory management and spares analysis.
• Knowing the cataloguing and procurement cycle.
• Familiarity with equipment asset register, technical data governance, Prepare of Bill of material for equipment and uploading in SAP.

Education Qualification:

Bachelor degree in engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Instrumentation)

Technical Competencies:

SAP Certified Application MM or PM Module. (Preferred)

Certification in Master Data Governance or Data Quality Management

(Preferred).

Proficiency in tools like:

Informatica MDM , SAP Master Data Governance (MDG) & Oracle MDM.Etc.

Experience in configuring, customizing, and maintaining MDM solutions.

Understanding of data domains (customer, vendor, product, material, etc.)

Ability to design data models, hierarchies, and relationships.

Knowledge of entity resolution, survivorship rules, and match/merge logic.

Experience with ETL tools (e.g., Informatica PowerCenter, Talend, SSIS).

Skills in data ingestion, transformation, and loading from multiple sources.

Familiarity with API-based and batch-based integration methods.

Strong SQL skills for querying and manipulating data.

Experience with relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc.).
