Manage and lead the Neuro-Respiratory ICU, overseeing patients with combined neurological and respiratory critical illness (e.g., neurosurgical post-op, stroke with ventilator support, neuromuscular respiratory failure, etc.).
Assess, stabilize and manage critically ill patients requiring advanced respiratory support (invasive and non-invasive ventilation, ECMO if applicable), along with neurological monitoring and care.
Liaise with neurology, neurosurgery, pulmonology, anaesthesia, and neuromuscular teams to coordinate multidisciplinary care.
Implement protocols for ventilation, sedation, weaning, neurological monitoring (ICP, EEG, imaging), and neuro-respiratory care pathways.
Supervise and mentor junior doctors, ICU nurses, respiratory therapists, physiotherapists; lead rounds and case reviews.
Ensure high standards of patient safety, infection control, documentation, and ICU governance.
Participate in ICU-related education, audits, quality improvement, and research initiatives.
Manage resources, ICU bed allocation, ventilators, advanced respiratory devices, neurological monitoring equipment.
Communicate with families, explain complex neuro-respiratory conditions, prognoses, treatment plans and ensure appropriate end-of-life discussions when needed.
