Job Description Zendesk is looking for a Software Engineer to join the Chat Platform team. The Chat Platform team focuses on delivering the best experience for our largest customers and experimenting opportunities for accelerated growth. You will be able to make meaningful contributions to a product that is used by thousands of people every day. The Chat Platform team works with a high degree of autonomy and achieves high velocity by combining designers, test engineers, product managers and software engineers collaborating. Software Engineers at Zendesk are expected to be hands-on technologists who can contribute to application development directly, implement projects, and be involved in technical discussions. You should love finding elegant solutions to complex problems and care about the technical and algorithmic aspects of large systems. Previous experience with web infrastructure, distributed systems, or component-oriented software engineering is a strong plus. What you get to do every day

• Work on Chat platform backend serving thousands of users daily.
• Ensure scalability, performance, maintainability and security of the technical platform in collaboration with SRE teams.
• Become a key contributor to better working practices across Zendesk.
• Maintain all the chat microservices and hosted services including upgrading their software stack.
• Work on maintaining the security of the infrastructure.
• Scope to learn and experiment in AI space and come up with POCs that may help improve developer productivity or forecast the future of the product.

What you bring to the role

• You have a proven record in Software Engineering with strong capabilities in some major web-programming languages (Nodejs, Golang, Ruby…) as we mainly use Nodejs Golang, Ruby and Python for all the chat services.
• You understand kubernetes and can debug applications hosted on kubernetes pods.
• You have delivered enterprise grade software preferably as part of a large SAAS company.
• You show a mature and pragmatic approach when choosing technologies.
• You have strong communication skills: you raise your voice when needed and listen to others.
• You put the customer first and respect your commitment to deliver.
• Personal projects, collaboration to open-source community or active learning initiatives would be a good sign of your passion to learn and solve problems.

Hybrid: In this role, our hybrid experience is designed at the team level to give you a rich onsite experience packed with connection, collaboration, learning, and celebration - while also giving you flexibility to work remotely for part of the week. This role must attend our local office for part of the week. The specific in-office schedule is to be determined by the hiring manager.
