**INTERIOR DESIGNERS RESPONSIBILITIES**

Office spaces and industrial premises;
Retail locations, such as shops, cafés, forecourts;
Leisure spaces, such as hotels, cinema foyers, holiday complexes;
Residential developments;
Domestic properties;
Ships and aircraft;
Public buildings, e.g. museums and civic buildings.

developing initial ideas and acquiring key information about potential projects, discussing requirements in detail with clients (the brief) and setting project schedules;
understanding clients' needs and the needs of the people using the building, developing design concepts in consultation with the client and establishing final briefs;
considering materials and costs according to set budgets and negotiating project fees;
conducting feasibility studies for projects;
researching and gathering information and photographs relating to the project;
producing 'sample' or 'mood' boards for presentation to clients;
sourcing products, e.g. fittings, furniture, lighting, finishes, decoration and dressing, and providing samples for clients;
preparing detailed working drawings, designs, plans, models and schemes, often using computer-aided design (CAD) software;
surveying buildings;
working in a team with other designers;
supervising work at the design stage and on site;
working closely with quantity surveyors to establish costs and work schedules on larger projects, with architects and other design professionals to determine the best use of space, and with manufacturers and contractors;
identifying new business and selling services to potential clients;
keeping up to date with new developments in the design industry.

**INTERIOR DESIGNERS RESPONSIBILITIES**

Search for and bid on new projects

Determine the client’s goals and requirements of the project

Consider how the space will be used and how people will move through the space

Sketch preliminary design plans, including electrical layouts

Specify materials and furnishings, such as lighting, furniture, wall finishes, flooring, and plumbing fixtures

Create a timeline for the interior design project and estimate project costs

Place orders for materials and oversee installing the design elements

Visit after the project to ensure that the client is satisfied

Confer with client to determine factors affecting planning interior environments, such as budget, architectural preferences, and purpose and function.

Advise client on interior design factors such as space planning, layout and utilization of furnishings or equipment, and color coordination.

Coordinate with other professionals, such as contractors, architects, engineers, and plumbers, to ensure job success.

Review and detail shop drawings for construction plans.

Estimate material requirements and costs, and present design to client for approval.

Subcontract fabrication, installation, and arrangement of carpeting, fixtures, accessories, draperies, paint and wall coverings, art work, furniture, and related items.

Formulate environmental plan to be practical, esthetic, and conducive to intended purposes, such as raising productivity or selling merchandise.

Select or design, and purchase furnishings, art works, and accessories.

Render design ideas in form of paste-ups or drawings.

Use computer-aided drafting (CAD) and related software to produce construction documents.

Plan and design interior environments for boats, planes, buses, trains, and other enclosed spaces.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

Negotiating fees and setting schedules for the project

Researching and drawing up rough plans

Developing detailed designs and choosing materials

Supervising the work as it is carried out.

Implementing and refurbishing interior spaces.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

Undertake design project from concept to completion

Define project requirements and schedule during the “brief”

Interpret and translate customer needs into rough plans

Set costs and project fees according to budget

Research and decide on materials and products sourcing

Produce “sample” and “mood products”

Supervise work progress

Work closely with designers, decorators, architects and constructors

Research and follow industry changes, evolutions and best practises

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

Work with clients to design or renovate spaces to meet their standards.

Enhance the function, safety, and aesthetics of interior spaces

Select samples, including flooring, carpet, and paint to be approved by client.

Choose color palettes.

Plan architectural detail such as crown molding and built-in bookshelves.

Read and interpret blueprints.

Travel to galleries to purchase artwork for spaces.

Work with vendors on the selection of pieces.

Negotiate prices.

Plan and estimate budgets for projects.

Submit drawings for approval by a construction inspector to ensure that the design meets building codes.
