The Vice Chancellor of Ahmedabad University in India is seeking to appoint an Associate Dean, Sciences in the** School of Arts and Sciences**. Ahmedabad University, a private non-profit institution, is one of India’s most exciting and serious academic centres to be established in the last couple of decades. Located in the urban centre of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Ahmedabad University is a research university that is premised on liberal education with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary and project-based learning. It is fast emerging as a research institution that matters and has been recognised as a Centre of Excellence by the Government of Gujarat. We are reimagining a university in the global academy and within subcontinental traditions of knowledge to act as a bridge between the arts, the sciences and the professions.

The School of Arts and Sciences was started in 2017 and currently has 5 divisions covering** Humanities and Languages**,** Social Sciences**,** Performing and Visual Arts**,** Mathematical and Physical Sciences**, and** Biological and Life Sciences**. In the Sciences it offers the** BS (Honours)** degree with Majors in** Physics**,** Computer Science**, and** Mathematical and Computational Sciences** and an** Integrated Master of Science degree** in the** Life Sciences**. It also has** PhD programmes** in the Life Sciences, Physics, and Mathematical and Computational Sciences.

The position of Associate Dean, Sciences offers a unique opportunity to build and develop the School of Arts and Sciences and to engage with the wider society. The Associate Dean, Sciences will oversee the activities of the divisions of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, and Biological and Life Sciences. The Mathematical and Physical Sciences division includes Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics and Statistics. Chemistry will be included at a later date. The Associate Dean, Sciences oversees the design and delivery of the undergraduate and graduate programmes in the Sciences and is responsible for recruiting and mentoring faculty in the Sciences. The Associate Dean, Sciences is a member of the Academic Council of the University and contributes towards formulating policies for the smooth functioning and growth of the University.

This position would suit a senior or mid-career scholar with a background in the Sciences and would be accompanied by an appointment as Associate Professor or Professor. Ahmedabad University is searching for an innovative, creative and dynamic leader, who wishes to join an eclectic group of 185 full-time faculty from around the world and a community of about 4000 students.
