Mechanical Supervisor

A mechanical supervisor at a sewage treatment plant is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and operation of all mechanical equipment within the facility, ensuring its optimal performance by supervising a team of technicians, conducting preventative maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, and coordinating with other departments to maintain smooth wastewater treatment processes while adhering to safety regulations and environmental standards.
**Key Responsibilities**:
**Leadership and Supervision**:
- Lead and manage a team of mechanical technicians responsible for maintenance and repair of plant equipment.
- Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide technical guidance to technicians.
- Conduct performance evaluations and identify training needs for team members.
**Maintenance Management**:
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all mechanical equipment, including pumps, screens, mixers, blowers, and de-watering equipment.
- Conduct routine inspections and identify potential issues before they become major problems.
- Coordinate planned shutdowns and major overhauls of mechanical equipment.
**Troubleshooting and Repair**:
- Diagnose mechanical malfunctions and troubleshoot equipment failures.
- Oversee repairs and replacements of components on pumps, motors, piping systems, and other mechanical equipment.
- Collaborate with electrical and instrumentation teams on complex troubleshooting issues.
**Technical Expertise**:
- Understand and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and operating manuals for plant equipment.
- Stay updated on new technologies and maintenance practices in the wastewater treatment industry.
- Analyze operational data and identify areas for improvement in mechanical efficiency.
**Safety and Compliance**:
- Ensure adherence to all safety procedures, including lockout/tag-out protocols, confined space entry, and proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Monitor compliance with environmental regulations and permits related to wastewater treatment operations.
**Reporting and Documentation**:
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and repair history.
- Generate reports on mechanical equipment status and identify potential cost-saving measures.
- Coordinate with operations staff to address any issues affecting treatment process efficiency.
- Required Skills and Qualifications:
**Technical Skills**: Strong understanding of mechanical principles, including pumps, motors, bearings, gearboxes, and piping systems.
**Maintenance Management**: Proven experience in developing and implementing preventive maintenance programs.
**Troubleshooting**: Ability to diagnose mechanical issues and effectively troubleshoot complex equipment malfunctions.
**Leadership Skills**: Proven ability to lead and motivate a team of technicians.
**Safety Focus**: Commitment to safety standards and procedures in an industrial setting.
**Relevant Education**: Associate's degree in mechanical maintenance or a related field, with significant experience in industrial maintenance, preferably in a wastewater treatment plant.
