**ABOUT SNEHA**

SNEHA, a Mumbai-based non-profit with over 450 staff, focuses on improving health and nutrition in urban
slums. Using a life-cycle approach, it addresses critical health and nutrition needs at key stages—from
adolescence to family planning—aiming to enhance outcomes for women and children in vulnerable
communities across Mumbai and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
It focuses on enhancing urban health by empowering both care seekers and providers. We work with
informal settlement communities to drive change and partner with public health systems to ensure
sustainable improvements. Our programs include Maternal and Child Health, Empowerment, Adolescent
Health and Sexuality, Public System Partnership, Prevention of Violence against Women and Children,
SNEHA Shakti, Palliative Care, and Livelihood Generation.

**ABOUT THE PROGRAM**

Healthy Cities Project is running 2 separate intervention models in Malvani. Nurturing care model in Azmi

Nagar and Community engagement model in NCC (New collector compound area). The vacancy for the

position of Program Officer is for the community engagement model. The intervention model encourages

community volunteers to engage to take action for maternal and child health in collaboration with system

in informal urban settlements of PN ward of Mumbai. (Both collective and individual actions).

**Objectives of the program is-**

1. To build the capacity of volunteers to engage in awareness and to mobilize to improve uptake of maternal

and child health services in the community

2. Collaborate with systems for increased response for maternal and child health through community

volunteers.

**COMPREHENSIVE OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION**

**CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
**Total number of community volunteer to be intervened is to be 78 - 84.

Undertake monthly meetings with champions and volunteers and ensure timely reporting of

discussions, challenges and mitigation.

Data collection, cross checking for appropriateness of data and ensure data correctness

Establishing platforms for dialogue between volunteers and ICDS, health departments, WASH,

community PDS ration shops to ensure streamlining of health and nutrition service availability

Undertake timely capacity building of volunteers and ensure knowledge and skill transfer to
community.

Planning and budgeting for center level camps, events, workshops and campaigns.

Support community volunteers to lead Individual and collective actions in the community

To coordinate with local groups of social influencers, CBO’s and NGO’s to network

**SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
**Familiarity with government systems, ministries, departments and informal settlements in
Mumbai

Experience in community mobilization, Good communication and negotiation skills.

Negotiation skills

**CRITICAL TRAITS
**Fluency in Hindi English and Marathi.

Ability to maintain role boundaries

In-depth understanding of community-led volunteer interventions. Should have worked on

the identification, mobilization, engagement, and development of volunteers for improved

maternal and child health and nutrition issues.

Ability to handle community issues.

Experience of working in urban slums.
