Task List - Architect (School & Education Infrastructure Projects)

1. School Space Planning & Design

Conduct site visits and surveys to understand existing conditions.

Prepare conceptual layouts for classrooms, libraries, STEM labs, play areas, WASH blocks, and staff rooms.

Ensure optimal space utilization keeping in mind pedagogy, student comfort, and safety.

Incorporate child-friendly, inclusive, and sustainable design principles.

Design flexible spaces for activity-based learning.

2. Drawing & Documentation

Develop architectural drawings (plans, elevations, sections, 2D and 3D views).

Prepare working drawings for execution (furniture layout, electrical, plumbing, flooring details).

Create as-built drawings after completion for documentation.

Support in preparing BOQs with engineers for construction.

3. School Requirement Assessment

Translate educational requirements into spatial needs (e.g., library corners, STEM zones, reading spaces).

Suggest design interventions for improving natural light, ventilation, and accessibility.

4. Budgeting & Cost Support

Support the budgeting manager by validating quantities in BOQ.

Provide material specifications (tiles, paint, furniture, waterproofing solutions) aligned with cost efficiency.

Suggest cost-effective design alternatives without compromising quality.

5. Civil & Aesthetic Elements

Recommend finishing details (plaster, paint schemes, flooring patterns, waterproofing systems).

Design facades, entrances, and landscape elements to improve aesthetics.

Ensure that child-centric elements (color coding, wall graphics, display boards) are integrated.

6. Compliance & Standards

Ensure design follows building codes, safety norms, and government standards.

Check barrier-free access for inclusive education spaces (ramps, toilets, circulation).

Incorporate fire safety and evacuation planning in layouts.

7. Project Execution Support

Work with site engineers and contractors to clarify drawings and specifications.

Conduct site supervision visits to ensure adherence to design.

Issue design revisions based on site conditions or client feedback.

8. Sustainability & Innovation

Suggest green building practices (rainwater harvesting, natural ventilation, daylighting).

Recommend sustainable materials (eco-friendly paint, recycled products, low-VOC materials).

Integrate energy-efficient solutions (solar, LED lighting, insulation).

9. Coordination & Communication

Budgeting Manager - for cost and BOQ alignment.

Civil Engineers/Site Managers - for execution feasibility.

Leadership/Execution - for space design aligned with pedagogy.

Prepare design decks & renders for partner/funder approvals.

10. Research & Continuous Improvement

Keep updated with latest school design trends & child-friendly architecture.

Study best practices in learning environment design globally.

Recommend innovative ideas to make schools more engaging & inclusive.
