Product Design Technician

**DESCRIPTION**

**Job Summary**

Creates and maintains specifications (drawings and models) of Cummins products per company, industry, national, and international standards, while positively impacting the organization's performance.

**Key Responsibilities**

**Design and Modeling**:

- Create and maintain product specifications utilizing **Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)**.
- Ensure model and drawing quality by adhering to company and industry standards.
- Develop system, subsystem, and component designs for engines, generator sets, and associated accessories.
- Draft manufacturing-level fabrication drawings, including genset enclosures, skids, and accessories.

**Standards and Documentation**:

- Participate in the preparation and review of technical drawings and documentation, ensuring alignment with **Project Specification** and **Vendor Document Register List (VDRL)**.
- Process engineering work requests and support Drawing Quality Reviews.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with design intent and specifications.

**Collaboration and Problem-Solving**:

- Review quotes and drawings from external vendors and suppliers.
- Engage with project engineers, vendors, and customer engineering teams to implement changes based on feedback.
- Coordinate and update designs, including preparing **Customer Resolution Sheets (CRS)** for customer-commented documents.

**Continuous Improvement**:

- Participate in the maintenance and enhancement of standards and practices to ensure quality and innovation.
- Work on concept layouts and conduct preliminary design feasibility studies.

**Tools and Systems**:

- Utilize **AutoCAD** and **Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)** tools like **Windchill** for data management and configuration control.
- Ensure secure handling of **Computer-Aided Design (CAD)** data while managing different file types across systems.

- **Product Configuration and Change Management**: Track, control, and communicate changes from concept to obsolescence while maintaining product integrity.

**Education, Licenses, Certifications**
- High school diploma or equivalent experience in a STEM field.
- Regionally applicable certification or an associate’s degree in a relevant field is preferred.
- Licensing may be required for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

**Experience**
- Requires intermediate-level knowledge and 2-3 years of work experience gained through training or on-the-job learning.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**Skills/Knowledge**
- Proficiency in **AutoCAD** and **GD&T**, with expertise in tolerance for assemblies.
- Familiarity with **PLM (Windchill)** systems and data management.
- Experience in creating manufacturing-level drawings for fabrication.
- Ability to work on concept layouts and balance of plant designs.
- Knowledge of project-specific standards, technical specifications, and design calculations.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate with external vendors and functional teams.
