What will you do as a Senior Principal Engineer, Product Line Architecture

Responsibilities & Activities:

- Provide leadership as key product line architect for our routing and switching portfolio, especially in the areas of Transport Technologies, Quality of Service (QoS), Operations, Administration, and Maintenance (OAM), and Fault and Performance Monitoring.
- Participate in product definition and architecture, and support engineering teams in design, scoping, planning, implementation, and test.
- Work closely with key customers to develop solutions that address their immediate and future needs.
- Deliver detailed functional requirements and influence technical designs for packet switching software architectures and network management.
- Work with Product Line Management team to assess strategic market directions and customer requirements
- Present Ciena solutions to a variety of internal and external audiences, including senior management and technical/operational leads

What technical experience and personal skills are required for this role?
- 10+ Years of relevant experience in senior roles in software/systems engineering and/or technical product management.
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in telecommunications, computer science or a related discipline
- Product design and delivery experience with network equipment and management systems designed for Service Provider deployments
- Experience in documenting customer use cases and technical requirements
- Deep knowledge of transport network technologies, such as Ethernet bridged networks, MPLS switched networks, and routed networks.
- Knowledge of Operations, Administration, and Maintenance (OAM) for routing and switching networks, including RFC 2544, ITU-T Y.1564, ITU-T Y.1731, RFC 6374, RFC 5357, RFC 7011, IEEE 802.1ag, 802.3ah, MEF 30.1, MEF 35.1, etc.
- Expertise in Quality of Service, including network slicing, differentiated services, and traffic management (marking, metering, policing, shaping, scheduling, queuing, etc).
- Experience with packet processor hardware, and preferably Broadcom XGS and DNX families
- Knowledge of network configuration and management, including YANG data modeling and NETCONF as well as streaming telemetry.
- Knowledge of network fault and performance monitoring, telemetry, and troubleshooting
- Ability to interact effectively with customers, vendors, and internal cross-functional teams and to work across geographies and time zones
- Leadership to independently take initiative while still working collaboratively within the product architecture team, demonstrating good judgment in generating and evaluating alternative approaches to address business and technical challenges
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
